How To Decorate A Snow Flocked Christmas Tree
It’s no secret that Christmas is one of my favorite times of the year.
So you probably won’t be surprised to learn that we have more than one Christmas tree in our home.
In fact, we have three trees!
We always have an artificial Christmas tree in the dining room and a fresh-cut one from a local tree farm in the living room.
For years I wanted to put up a tree in our bedroom, but we didn’t have the space…until recently!
And so, after some begging, my husband caved to my pleas and a brand new flocked tree joined our little Christmas tree family.
We had never owned a flocked Christmas tree before and learning how to decorate it took some patience and a lot of trial and error.
But, now that I’ve got it down to a science, I’m sharing my tips with you.
Decorating a flocked Christmas tree might seem daunting at first, but it doesn’t have to be difficult!
Here are the five easy steps I use to decorate a flocked tree for Christmas.

Step 1: Choose a Theme: Festive Flocked Christmas Tree Ideas
Before you start decorating your white flocked Christmas tree (or any tree for that matter), decide on a theme!
With so many Christmas tree styles to choose from – traditional, whimsical, rustic, farmhouse, or even modern – picking a theme will help you decide the best Christmas decorations to use.
As someone who loves being creative, I enjoy updating my decor each year, but that doesn’t mean you need to!
I’m a big believer in doing what YOU love.
If you prefer using the same colors and decorations every year that is more than okay, too.
If you are looking for flocked Christmas tree decorating ideas here is some inspiration to get you started:
- Red and White: Decorating with red and white for Christmas is a timeless combination. Incorporate deep red, crisp white, and pops of silver or gold for a festive touch.
- Green and Gold: A sophisticated green and gold holiday color scheme combines the warmth of gold with the coolness of green. Add touches of ivory or cream for a finished look.
- Blue and Green: Bring the outdoors in with a Christmas color scheme of deep green and navy blue with pops of silver or white.
- Red and Gold: A traditional red and gold combination is another favorite of mine. Use deep red, rich gold, and hints of green for a balanced look.
So, what’s the biggest takeaway when choosing a theme to decorate a white flocked Christmas tree?
Decorate it in whatever way makes you happy!
There are no rules at Christmastime — just enjoy the process, have fun, and start with a plan in mind.
Step 2: Organize and Arrange Your Ornaments
Once you’ve decided on your theme, lay out all your ornaments by grouping similar colors and styles.
Begin decorating your faux frosted tree by hanging the biggest ornaments at the top and gradually working your way down, creating a zigzag pattern.
I started with these large wood snowflakes and then hung a few small cream-colored Christmas stockings on the branches to give the tree a cozy feel.
Once you’ve hung the big ornaments, fill in the empty spots on your tree with smaller ornaments and baubles in different colors and shapes that match your theme.
To make the ornaments pop against the white flocked branches, I used a mix of gold and red ornaments.
I started with the biggest red and gold ornaments and hung them in a similar zigzag pattern from the top of the tree down.
Then I repeated this process with the smaller red and gold ornaments.
For a bit of extra flair, mix in ornaments with unique patterns or textures to give your decorated flocked Christmas tree more dimension and visual interest.
To finish the base layers, I added a few red and white ticking stripe balls in two different sizes.
Pro Tip: To make sure your tree is balanced, pause every so often and step back to see how your tree looks. This will help you spot any empty areas or places where the ornaments are too crowded.
To finish decorating our flocked tree, I tucked a Santa ornament into each one of the stockings.
I love the vintage look of these ornaments, and since they fit my red and white theme, I couldn’t resist adding a few.
Pro Tip: Don’t forget to hang some of your favorite ornaments or meaningful family heirlooms on your tree to make it feel extra special.
Step 3: How to Decorate a Flocked Christmas Tree with Ribbon
After you’ve added all your ornaments, it’s time to add some ribbon.
You can use just one type of ribbon or mix and match different patterns and widths for a more dramatic look.
To make large loops like these, use wired ribbon and cut small strips from each roll to make it easier to shape.
Then, starting from the top of your tree, create a waterfall pattern by twisting and tucking the top and bottom of each piece of ribbon into the tree as you work your way down.
I left the back bare since it faces the wall, but you can add more or less ribbon as you like.
I used about eight yards of red and white ticking stripe ribbon to create the look on my decorated frosted Christmas tree.
Step 4: Use Floral Picks for an Elegant Flocked Christmas Tree
Floral picks make the perfect accent to complement the overall look of artificial Christmas trees.
Festive seasonal florals, frosted branches, berries, and pine cones can add a magical touch to your tree.
These frosted red berry picks are one of my favorite ways to decorate a flocked Christmas tree.
And can you believe these berry picks were part of a larger stem?
I bought one large stem of berries and made multiple picks from it, saving money.
And these versatile frosted berries aren’t just for decorating a white flocked Christmas tree.
I also use them in garlands and porch pots on my holiday front porch.
Pro Tip: Bend and mold the stems of the floral picks as you go. This will help them look more realistic allowing you to mirror the shape of your tree branches.
Step 5: Finish with a Tree Skirt or Collar
Finish your tree with a beautiful tree skirt to hide the tree stand and add a festive touch to your holiday decor.
They come in a variety of colors and styles.
As an alternative, you can use a metal tree collar.
Or get creative and use a woven basket, an old wood crate, a galvanized metal bucket, or a vintage plaid throw blanket.
In fact, my tree skirt isn’t a skirt at all — it’s a knit throw blanket that I repurposed.
I love the pretty cream color, and better yet, it didn’t cost me a thing.
And that’s it, my friends!
My quick and easy 5-step process for learning how to decorate a flocked tree like a pro.
In closing, I’ll leave you with this view of our bedroom decorated for the holidays…it’s my favorite!
There’s truly nothing that beats the magical glow of lights on beautifully decorated frosted Christmas trees.
