Week In Rewind With Midwest Life And Style
Happy Monday, friends!
This morning I am writing to you from a hotel room in Kansas City, which explains why I am running a bit behind. (More to come on our KC adventures in a bit.)
But as the saying goes, better late than never, right?
Today’s recap includes my latest recipe, a DIY for spring, and as always, inspiration from a few of my favorite friends.
So settle in, get cozy, and catch up with the latest week in rewind!
Tidbits From Home
It was a busy week here with a lot happening! As many of you know, I went back to work last Monday. After taking almost six weeks off to recover from surgery, it has been an adjustment, to say the least.
Thankfully I have some awesome coworkers who helped make my transition back to the working world a bit easier with welcome-back bagels and a nice note on my office door.
On Tuesday, Kirk and I celebrated Valentine’s day with takeout from a local Chinese restaurant. It’s a tradition that dates back to our college days and the first Valentine’s Day we spent together as poor students splurging on sweet and sour chicken and crab rangoon.
Over 20 years later and we are still going strong! It’s become one of my favorite traditions we share as a couple and one I look forward to each year when Valentine’s Day rolls around.
Kirk also made the day extra special by revealing the plans for my 40th birthday trip. He has been working with a travel agent to surprise me, and I have to say he did an amazing job!
We will be going to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic in May. It will be our first time visiting there, and I can not wait to soak up some sun and enjoy the beautiful sandy beaches. (With a fruity drink in hand, of course! )
I will share more about our adventure (and all of my favorite travel essentials) as the date gets closer. In the meantime, if you have been I would love to hear about it, so tell me all your travel do’s, don’ts, and packing tips.
More Tidbits From Home
Pivoting from sandy beaches to snow storms. I just got done sharing how beautiful our weather has been here in Nebraska in time for winter to return with a vengeance.
On Thursday, we got 11″ of snow! But, it wasn’t all bad. Kirk and the girls enjoyed a snow day, while I got to work from home in my p.j.s.
We closed out the week with Peyton’s last basketball game of the season. And on Saturday morning, we traveled to Kansas City for a club volleyball tournament. (Which explains why I am cranking out this recap from on the road.)
Peyton’s team is 4-2 on the weekend and will be back on the court today hoping to pick up a few more wins before heading home.
My Favorite Finds
These bunny figurines are super cute for spring
I have and love this insulated water bottle (and it’s way less than some of the other big-name brands)
I’m keeping my eye on this luggage set for our trip in May
These tennis shoes are a perfect staple for your closet
I have and use these scrub brushes in the kitchen
More Favorites From Amazon
I am always adding new finds to my Amazon storefront, so be sure to stop by and check out my latest curated collections.
P.s. Did you know that I earn a small commission each time you click on a shoppable link in one of my posts and buy something? (Even if what you purchase is not the item I have linked.)
I am so thankful when you shop using my links. It helps keep my blogging dream alive and my little corner of the web up and going.
This Week On The Blog
Last week I promised to share two new recipes, but it was another case of best-laid plans.
I whipped up a batch of red velvet cheesecake brownies and hoped to share those with you on Tuesday. The brownies turned out to be amazing. Like seriously. They were so darn good!
The photos? Not so much. No matter how I edited them, I was not happy with how they looked, and in my heart of hearts, I could not bring myself to share them. Sigh.
But, I did share a new recipe for a delicious slow cooker shredded beef chili.
Loaded with beans tender, shredded beef, and seasoned to perfection it is a guaranteed dinner-time winner. Just set it, forget it, and enjoy!
And, since I missed out on sharing a second post, I thought it would be fun to look back at one of my favorite DIYs from last year instead.
This fern wreath is a great way to dress up your front door for spring. And anyone can make it. (Yes, even my self-proclaimed non-crafty friends).
You can get all the details and read my tutorial for this DIY craft HERE.

Thank you, CoCo. And you are very welcome! The snow is already almost gone! We had warm weather again for a few days, but it’s back to winter today. Hopefully, spring will be here to stay sooner rather than later!
