Week In Rewind With Midwest Life And Style
Happy Monday, friends!
Is anyone else currently struggling with a case of the winter blahs, or is it just me? I’ll admit I was on the struggle bus for a good part of last week, which is why this post is a bit later than usual.
My post-surgery brain fog has been unreal lately, and our cold and gloomy Nebraska weather has not done much to help. Ooph! I am so ready for spring!
Despite the gray skies and brain drain, I powered through to share three new posts this week. There’s a new breakfast recipe, tips and ideas for hosting a book club, and a brunch menu with six simple and delicious dishes that I know you’ll love.
If you missed any of the posts, I’ve linked them all below. In today’s recap, I’ve also gathered up some Valentines’ Day inspiration from a few of my friends.
So pour yourself a cup of coffee, and catch up with the latest week in rewind.
Tidbits From Home
I’m kicking off this rewind with the most exciting news of the week…well, exciting for me anyway. Last Saturday, we added a new member to our family.
Meet our new car, Betty! Kirk and I have been talking about needing a more reliable ride for a while now. Given that I had driven my previous vehicle for almost 16 years, it was more than past time to get something new.
We’ll put her through the paces this spring with several trips for club volleyball tournaments, including a long drive to Minneapolis and two visits to Kansas City.
Oh, and don’t feel too bad about my old car. It will still get plenty of love, as it becomes Peyton’s car when she starts to drive next year.
My Favorite Finds
I ordered these for our new car and love them!
This pretty decorative piece reminds me of vintage milk glass.
I have and love this laundry sorter.
This would make a cute Valentine’s Day gift.
These comfy-looking slip-ons are currently in my cart.
Latest Loves on Amazon
I added more items to my Amazon storefront this week including some of my favorite car care and organization finds.
P.s. Did you know that I earn a small commission each time you click on a shoppable link in one of my posts and buy something? (Even if what you purchase is not the item I have linked.)
I am always so thankful when you shop using my links. It helps keep my blogging dream alive and my little corner of the web up and going.
This Week On The Blog
This week I joined my friends from supper club for a book club brunch, so my three new posts were all about entertaining.
First, on Wednesday, I shared my latest recipe. Many of you probably know by now that I have a small love affair with carbs and sweets. Like kryptonite to Superman, they are my downfall, and I can’t say no.
So, when I came across the recipe for this blueberry sour cream coffee cake in one of my old church cookbooks, I knew it was one that I had to try. Moist and flavorful, it’s the perfect sweet bread to serve for breakfast or brunch.
Then on Thursday, I shared a newly styled tablescape and some simple ideas for hosting a book club brunch.
I will confess that I’m not an avid reader. (Unless you count magazines!) But if you’re part of a book club and want to host a get-together with your friends, I hope you find my tips and decorating ideas helpful.
And on Saturday, I shared our latest supper club menu with a mix of six sweet and savory brunch recipes that everyone will love.

Thanks for including my Valentine’s Day garland, Jen! Sorry it’s taken me a while to get over here and pay you a visit. I think I’m suffering from winter blues too! I’m SO ready for spring everything. That coffee cake looks scrumptious, by the way. I hope you get some spring weather heading your way soon! Hugs!
midwestlifeandstyle says
You are so welcome, Crissy. It seems a lot of friends are feeling a bit blah lately. I’m sure the gloomy and cold weather doesn’t help. Coupled with post-Christmas burnout, the winter blues are hitting hard! I hope you get to rest and recharge and that warmer days are on the way for both of us soon!

Thank you so much for the feature… and BIG CONGRATS on the new car! Always fun! I’m driving a rental right now… same make/model as mine (that is in the shop) but 15 years newer. I told my fam, I would so get this car again… unless I could get my dream car (Camry LE). I love Toyotas! 😉

You are so welcome! I saw about your fender bender. What a bummer, but I’m glad no one as hurt and the young man is taking responsibility for the accident. I hope you get your car back soon, good as new!

Jen, I always enjoy reading your round up. I sit here with my cup of coffee and read it. I would love to have a slice of that cake to go with my coffee. Congrats on your new car! It is always exciting to get a new vehicle.
midwestlifeandstyle says
Thank you, Tammy, for stopping by! I am so glad you enjoy reading my round-up. I love getting to catch-up and “chat” with all of my friends here. I hope you are staying warm and having a wonderful week!
Wendy McMonigle says
I always enjoy your weekly round ups Jen. Typically I do have a cup of coffee in my hand ( along with something sweet) and read about your week. I am glad you were a bit late, because I am late to read your post as well. I am so glad you are felling better and I love your new wheels, so pretty and shiny.
I always enjoy reading your menu too, such a great idea. I am glad you are so organized.
Thank you for sharing my treat post.
midwestlifeandstyle says
Thank you, Wendy. I’ve struggled to get back into a routine while I’m recovering but trying not to stress too much and enjoying a bit of a slower pace (at least for now).
And I’m so glad the meal plan is helpful. With your hectic schedules, having a plan is such a lifesaver in our house. If not for this, we’d be living on take-out or frozen pizzas!😂
CoCo says
So glad you’re on the mend, Jen! Congratulations on Betty. She is a beauty! We keep our cars for a long time too. It’s super sweet you’re passing your car down. I can’t believe she’ll be driving soon. Love all the Valentine’s inspiration and your recipes as well. Heading over to check out your Amazon loves and to check out your book club post. I’m all about books and book clubs and sweet treats. They definitely make life better. Sending you hugs, CoCo
midwestlifeandstyle says
Thank you, CoCo. Not quite back to 100% yet, but feeling much better than I did three weeks ago! I can’t believe my oldest daughter will be 16 next year…how can I be that old?😂 Thanks so much for stopping by to say “hi”. I hope you are having a great week!
Rachel Harper says

We finally have sunshine today! It’s absolutely freezing outside but at least the sun is shining.. I too have had winter blues.. so ready for spring! How fun that you bought a new car! Reading about you traveling to volleyball tournaments brought back lots of memories of traveling four our daughters vball games! Happy to hear you are feeling better. Thanks so much for highlighting my red and pink Valentine’s Day tablescape! Such a fun surprise to wake up to today!
Hugs,
Karin

Kelly Radcliff says
Jen congrats on the new car! I love her name:) And thanks for the weekly menu ideas…I’ve been working on meal planning too! I hope those blues pass quickly…I’ve had them too. Ugh Love you lots and continue to pray for your recovery from surgery!
midwestlifeandstyle says
Thank you, Kelly. It’s been nice to have a more reliable car. Ironically enough Kirk’s was acting up this morning. Sigh! Good thing we have “bonus” car until next February when Peyton starts to drive full-time. As far as the winter blahs go, I just keep telling myself that spring will be here soon. I’m going to plan my garden soon, so hopefully, that will help get me out of my rut. And thank you for the prayers. I appreciate them!
