Week In Rewind With Midwest Life And Style
Is it just me, or does it seem like summer is slipping away quickly? It’s hard to believe that this month is already half over.
Kirk and the girls start school in just a few weeks, so I’m slowing things down on the blog a bit to soak up as much family time as possible. And, to be honest, I need a bit of a break to prevent burnout and to get geared up for Q4. (Aka, the busiest time of the year for bloggers!)
In case you missed it, I did share one new post this week, and as always, I have rounded up some of my favorite ideas and inspiration from around the web. So grab some coffee (or tea) and join me for the latest week in rewind.
Tidbits From Home
It was a quiet week at home, but we’re finding joy in the slower pace before the busyness of the school year begins.
I feel like my garden is slow to produce this year, but I finally have a few veggie babies. Just don’t look too closely at all of the weeds!
It’s been so insanely hot here. The heat combined with the humidity makes it feel like a sauna outside. (I know my Midwest friends get it.)
Needless to say, the garden has been neglected the past few weeks in favor of spending time in the cool AC.
All of my rose bushes are on their second bloom, which means the aphids are back too. I noticed some damage on the leaves, so I sprinkled all my plants with Sevin dust to protect them.
And look what else finally bloomed this week? I’m so excited! Next to peonies, hydrangeas are my favorite summer flower.
These beauties may just make an appearance on the blog this week (hint, hint).
My Favorite Finds
We own and love these kitchen barstools.
This cast iron dutch oven is perfect for the upcoming soup season!
I added these slides to my fall wardrobe wishlist.
I adore this mini clutch.
This pendant necklace is back on sale and would be a great birthday or Christmas gift.
This Week On The Blog
I joined five friends to share decor, DIYs, and recipes that are reminiscent of old-fashioned summer.
Nothing says summer to me like the sweet smell of zucchini bread fresh from the oven.
And my grandma’s recipe is one of the best. It’s always a big hit in our house. So much so, that these mini loaves were devoured in less than two days!
Good thing I have a stash of zucchini in the freezer and more in the garden.
Since I only had one new post, I thought it would be fun to revisit two throwback posts again this week.
This DIY bathroom vanity makeover is one of my faves. You might be surprised to see what it looked like before. And do you want to know the best part? The whole makeover cost less than $100!
Throwback number two is my most popular recipe. With more than 3,000 pins and shares, this apple fritter monkey bread is part breakfast, part dessert, and totally ah-mazing!
Coming Next Week To MWLS
Next week I will be joining a few blogging friends for two different blog hops. First, on Tuesday, I will be sharing ideas for dining outdoors with a simple summer picnic.
Then, on Thursday, I will be sharing tips for how to style thrifted finds in your home.
I can’t wait, so I hope you’ll stop by again next week to read both posts.

DIY Headboard
We’ve been talking about updating Peyton’s room so it is more “appropriate” for a teenager, and I love this DIY headboard idea from my friend Rachel at The Ponds Farmhouse.
We even have an old headboard tucked away in the basement that has been collecting dust for years.
I think I may have just found my next project.
Crunchy French Toast
If I’m going to splurge for breakfast, french toast is my go-to.
This crunchy french toast from Karin at Karin’s Kottage looks delish and is on my list of new recipes to try!
How To Strip Furniture With Oven Cleaner
Have you seen the newest funtiture makeover craze? My friend Jennifer at Cottage on Bunker Hill shared her tips for how to strip furniture with oven cleaner.
