Week In Rewind With Midwest Life And Style
Oops! Let’s try this again. Hello, friends, and happy Sunday! I hope you are enjoying your long holiday weekend. I apologize for the extra email yesterday. One of these days, I’ll figure it out, but until then, thank you for your patience and grace.
It was a busy week here on the blog, and I have several new posts to share with you. Here’s the latest edition of the week in rewind.
Tidbits From Home
Hellloooo summer! Wednesday was the last day of school for Kirk and the girls. It was exciting and yet bittersweet in many ways.
Next year we will have a third grader and a high school student. I don’t know how that is possible?!? I’m so proud of the young ladies they are becoming, but sometimes I wish life had a pause button. It’s true when they say the days are long, but the years are oh so short.
And, of course, their last day was bittersweet given the tragic events that unfolded in Texas. As a parent, and the wife, daughter, and sister of teachers, it terrifies me and breaks my heart.
Its hard not to feel overwhelmed and weary with so much sadness in the news. Sending lots of love and hugs to those friends who need it.
When it wasn’t raining, I found myself spending more time in the garden this week. It’s so peaceful and therapeutic. It’s one of my favorite places to be in the summer. My peonies started to bloom, and some of my rose bushes have started to bloom too . I’ll share more garden pics next week.
My Favorite Finds
I ordered this skirt to wear to work this summer. It can be dressed up, or paired with a cute denim jacket for a more casual look.
I bought two of these lanterns for our front porch. (Psst….here’s a secret. They’re battery operated!)
I’m eyeing these chairs to create a conversation area for our backyard.
This Week at MWLS
Memorial Day weekend marks the start of summer, and this week I shared three new posts that are perfect for the season.
7 Simple Ways To Add Curb Appeal To Your Porch This Summer
One of the things I look forward to the most in the summer is sprucing up our front porch.
So I’m sharing my tips to help your home stand out from the rest. Make a great first impression with seven simple ideas to add curb appeal to your porch this summer.
How To Host A Low Country Boil
This month our theme for supper club was Low Country Boil, and I had so much fun styling this shabby chic outdoor dining table.
It probably comes as no surprise when I tell you that low country boils aren’t a common occurrence here in the Midwest. But, as an event planner, I do know a thing or two about how to host a fun and relaxing get-together.
Perfect for a 4th of July picnic, or a neighborhood block party, see how easy it is to host a low country boil by following these 3 simple steps.
Spiked Strawberry Lemonade
There’s nothing more refreshing in the summer than an ice-cold glass of strawberry lemonade.
And if it has a little extra somethin’ in it, that makes it even better!
If you’re looking for a super simple summer cocktail, be sure to give this spiked strawberry lemonade a try.
What’s Coming Next To Midwest Life And Style
Next week I will be sharing a gift guide for Father’s Day and a simple summer DIY. I can’t wait to share with you!
More Tips, Ideas, And Inspiration From Around The Web
Patriotic Tablescape
My friend Kim from Cottage in the Mitten shared this pretty red, white, and blue tablescape.
I had the honor of meeting Kim at a blogging conference last summer, and she is as kind and sweet as they come.
I love the way that she mixes patterns and textures. And you won’t believe the story behind her vintage drinking glasses. It’s so special.
Stop by Kim’s blog to say “hi” and to see more.
Backyard Conversation Area & Fire Pit
Creating a backyard oasis is on my wishlist, and I’m taking major inspiration from this gorgeous fire pit conversation area from Ann at Dabbling & Decorating.
And just look at those views! Wow!

Red, White, and Blue Wreath
I fell in love the minute I saw this adorable red, white and blue wreath from Heidi at Eleanore Rose Home.
The banner and the red and white ticking stripe ribbon are a subtle but beautiful way to add a patriotic touch to your home for the summer.

You are so welcome! I’m trying to spend as much time outside as I can too, but then the inside of my house suffers.🥴 You should see the giant pile of laundry in my room that I am procrastinating doing!

Busy week! Congratulations on the last day of school!

Thanks, Stacy. It’s so nice to be on summer break…although it seems like we’ve replaced homework and school with camps. But trying to enjoy it as much as we can!

Jen, thank you so much for sharing my wicker chair do-over. It is also fun to see Ann’s outdoor space and Heidi’s great patriotic tips. I feel so honored being part of your Sunday Week in Review. Yes, and children grow so fast. It seems like when they reach high school, life just fast forwards. Enjoy every minute.

You are so very welcome, Mary. Thank you for sharing your beautiful chair makeover with us. Happy weekend!

Hi Jen. Read your blog this morning and saw your lanterns on your porch. If I remember your front door faces West. I read on another blog that wax candles could melt in the afternoon sun. Hope you and your family have a great Memorial weekend
midwestlifeandstyle says
Yes, you have a good memory.😉 Our porch does face west. I have had candles melt before…boo. These lanterns came with “candles”, but they aren’t actually made of wax so they’re perfect for what I need! I hope you enjoy your memorial day weekend too!
Ann says
Jen thank you so much for sharing our new fire pit. It means so much to me. Have a wonderful weekend🙏🏻
