Tidbits from Home
Last weekend my parents came to visit and together we finished our summer project: staining the entire fence!
I wish I had taken a before photo, but the transformation is truly amazing…it looks brand-new!
Our landscape lights had seen better days thanks to several summers of backyard volleyball, so once the fence was done we installed new landscape lights and beautiful hanging solar lanterns on the gate posts.
I also got a pleasant surprise this week…some gorgeous zinnia blooms!
This was my first time planting them, and let’s just say “planting” is a loose term since I basically tossed seeds into the mulch.
I’m amazed at how well they did and can’t wait to see how they grow next year with a little more effort.
Unfortunately, our week took a turn on Wednesday when a severe windstorm hit.
With gusts over 80 mph, we weren’t spared – some trees and our freshly stained fence took a hit.
But we’re grateful that everything can be easily fixed and know it could have been much worse; many people had trees crashing through roofs or cars!
I was also thankful for our chainsaw and amazing neighbors who helped with the clean-up.
We were without power for 25 hours, so we made the most of it by playing card games and a lot of Yahtzee!
On Thursday afternoon, we finally decided to escape the heat and recharge our devices with an impromptu pizza and movie night in Kirk’s classroom.
I’m so grateful to have power restored and incredibly thankful to the hardworking linemen who worked tirelessly to get everything back up and running.
