Tidbits from Home
Last weekend, my mom came for a visit and we hit up the local Vintage Market Days together!
Between the pandemic and Peyton’s club volleyball schedule, it’s been years since we’d been, so when the stars aligned and I had a rare free day, I jumped at the chance.
My shopping haul wasn’t huge – just a cool graphic tee and a new candle – but we had a lot of fun browsing!
Speaking of volleyball, remember how we thought Peyton’s regular season was over after our last tournament in Salt Lake City?
We were surprised when we found out the club entered them in a regional qualifier in Omaha last Sunday.
After dropping their first match of the day, they fought hard through the consolation bracket and earned a bid to Nationals in Las Vegas this July!
Unfortunately, things got scary when Peyton went down in the first game.
Thankfully, it turned out to be a bad ankle sprain, not a knee injury, but sadly the injury means that track season is over.
I know she is disappointed not to have the opportunity to compete in her conference or district meets, but we’re thankful the injury wasn’t more severe.
She’s rocking a walking boot for a few weeks, but hopefully, she’ll be healed in time to join her team on the court for a pre-Nationals event in June and then Nationals over the Fourth of July!
An Eventful Weekend
This week was definitely eventful!
On Friday, a massive tornado outbreak hit Nebraska and Iowa.
We’re used to tornado warnings here…in fact, it’s a joke that when sirens sound in the Midwest everyone runs outside to look instead of taking shelter.
But this time, a huge tornado touched down just six miles from our house!
A nearby manufacturing plant was completely destroyed, and a few other communities across both states got hit by strong tornadoes too.
Thankfully, despite all the damage, no one got seriously hurt.
I’ve lived here my whole life and never experienced anything like it, and I hope I never do again!

The images from the storm are truly heartbreaking. I can’t even begin to imagine. I’m so thankful we escaped damage here, but my heart aches for those whose homes were damaged or destroyed.
