Timeless Red And Gold Holiday Home Tour
The most wonderful time of the year is here! I’m so excited to share my timeless red and gold holiday home tour with you. As you’ve probably guessed by now, this year’s Christmas plan includes a classic color palette with a lot of red, gold, and tartan plaid.
Decking The Halls
Decorating our home for the holidays started extra early this year as I prepared for The Home Depot Holiday Style Challenge. As a newbie to the blogging scene, it was a dream come true to be selected for this annual challenge sponsored by The Home Depot. The challenge was the perfect way to kick off the holiday season in our home. You can see a sneak peek of my style challenge a few posts back. And check out the full reveal on The Home Depot’s blog!
The Entry
Help yourself to a cup of cocoa, and come on in! Welcome to our entry. This is the first view that greets you when you walk through the door, and it happens to be one of my favorites.
The front entry is filled with a mix of traditional and vintage decor, including this repurposed dresser that was a $60 Goodwill find!
On the dresser, I added a few more vintage finds, including these Christmas postcards that I got on Etsy last year. I enjoy looking at all of the pretty designs, and the history nerd in me loves reading the messages that people sent to their families and friends.
Of course, I found a way to add in some plaid thanks to this little lunch box. I purchased it with my mom at a local Vintage Market Days event a few years ago. Vintage shopping is one of our favorite things to do together, and I can’t wait to go again soon.
I hung a frosted red berry wreath on our front door and carried the red and gold theme over to the shelf by hanging a cozy plaid throw. On the hooks, I also hung an old pair of skates to add an extra touch of winter.
Above the shelf, I draped some faux cypress greenery. It is so realistic looking and one of my favorites to use throughout our home. I also have it draped on the mantle in our living room.
To finish the shelf I added some brass candlesticks, a bell garland that I picked up from the Target dollar spot, and a new print and frame from my friend Lindsey at Weathered Wood Home. Isn’t it gorgeous? All of her prints are beautiful, and her frames are one-of-a-kind and made from reclaimed wood.

The Dining Room
One of my favorite holiday traditions is gathering around the table with family and friends for a meal, so I set our table for a festive Christmas brunch.
These gold lanterns were a new purchase this year and the starting point for my centerpiece. I filled them with a mix of red and gold ornaments and then added a garland with some twinkle lights to finish the look.
To dress up the place settings I added some small wreaths underneath the bowls and some pretty, red fringe napkins. Then, to add some more details, I tied a small bell with some greenery to the champagne flutes using my favorite red and white twine.
The gold flatware adds the final finishing touch. Don’t you love it? It is perfect for special holiday gatherings. (In fact, I used it for our Thanksgiving table too!)
Hot cocoa is a favorite in our house this time of year, so I also created a cozy hot cocoa bar on our dining room buffet table.
I added these fun Santa mugs and filled some glass jars filled with toppings like marshmallows, candy canes, and chocolate chips. Yum!
Then I added these fun printable hot cocoa tags and added some small wooden scoops for serving. You can see all of the details on our cozy hot cocoa bar [HERE] and click here to get your own free printables!
The tree in our dining room is number one of three. Because, when it comes to Christmas, you can never have too many trees! I continued the red, gold, and plaid theme with the ornaments.
There is even pretty plaid wrapping paper under the tree!

The Bedroom
I love adding little touches of Christmas to our bedroom each year. One of my favorite ways to make it feel extra cozy is by changing up our bedding. First, I start with soft flannel sheets and then layer on a quilted coverlet to add extra warmth for those cold winter days.
I also like to include a throw blanket and a few decorative pillows. The plaid pillows were a DIY project from last Christmas. Would you believe that they are made out of napkins?
I am not a skilled sewer, but these were honestly so simple to make. You can find the easy tutorial saved on my Instagram highlights.
They are great for a beginning-level DIYer, and an inexpensive way to add a little holiday cheer to your home. It would seem even our kitty, Chloe, agrees.
Next up, greenery. It is a staple in all of my Christmas decorating. I like to use a mix of both fresh and faux to help bring the feeling of the outdoors in. This year, I added some mixed greens with winter berries to the tin buckets above our headboard. I also used some plaid ribbon to tack a pair of matching wreaths to each of my vintage shutters.
Isn’t the ribbon beautiful? I love how it adds a pop of color against the simple frosted greenery and helps to tie in those timeless red and gold holiday colors.
But, I think my favorite thing about our bedroom is this red and gold tree. It took a little convincing, but a few years ago I talked my husband into putting a tree up in our room.
Now we both love it! There’s nothing like being snuggled up in bed at night by the cozy glow of the twinkling lights.
