How To Make Sparkling White Winter Sangria
Step 1: Prepare Your Fruit
To make your winter white sangria, first, start by preparing your fruit.
Wash and dice the apple and thinly slice your orange and lime.
A quick note on the cranberries, I used fresh ones, but if you are using frozen, be sure they are fully thawed and carefully patted dry before mixing them in the drink.
They are also very tart.
You can eat them if you’d like, but their main purpose is to serve as a pretty garnish.
Step 2: Mix Your Sangria
Once all of the fruit is prepped, add the orange slices, lime slices, diced apples, and cranberries to a large serving pitcher.
Next, measure one ounce each of triple sec and vodka and pour over the fruit.
Then pour in your white wine and stir to mix.
I prefer a sweet wine (on that rare occasion that I drink it), so I used prosecco to make my winter white sparkling sangria.
A pinot grigio or a sauvignon blanc would also work well for this cocktail.
Step 3: Chill, Serve, and Enjoy!
Once mixed, chill the sangria in the fridge for at least four hours.
To serve, pour the chilled sangria into highball glasses.
Fill each one about three-quarters full with the sangria mixture, top off with ginger ale, and garnish with a fresh spring of rosemary.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What kind of wine is best for white sangria?
A: I used Prosecco for this recipe, but you can also go with a light and crisp white wine like Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, or Riesling. These options pair perfectly with the fruit flavors and keep the sangria balanced without overpowering it.
Q: Is it better to make my sparkling winter sangria the night before?
A: You can absolutely make your sangria the night before. This gives the flavors time to blend, making it taste even better when you’re ready to serve.
Q: Is sangria supposed to be served cold?
A: Yes! Sangria is best served cold, so it’s a good idea to chill the wine and fruits beforehand. The liquor doesn’t need to be cold, but keeping the other ingredients chilled ensures your sangria is perfectly refreshing.
Q: How do I store leftover sangria?
A: Sangria lasts 3 to 5 days in the fridge if stored in an airtight container. If it’s just stored in a pitcher and covered with plastic wrap, it’s best to drink it within a day or two
What to Pair with Your White Sangria
White sangria pairs perfectly with a variety of winter dishes, making it perfect for any occasion.
For appetizers, consider serving a creamy cheese ball (this Hawaiian one and this everything bagel seasoning one are a few of my favorites), stuffed mushrooms, or simple crockpot BBQ meatballs.
Soups like a hearty chicken and corn chowder or a classic tomato soup are also great choices.
For main dishes, try pairing your sangria with roasted chicken and vegetables or a a delicious bacon, onion and cheese tart.
