When I look back on photos of our old home, it’s clear that my taste in paint has changed. From chocolate brown to yellow gold, my walls have seen it all. Now, I prefer more neutral tones, so today I’m sharing the best neutral paint colors.
The Best Neutral Paint Colors
In my last post, I shared a long to-do list that is part of our budget bathroom remodel. On the task list? You guessed it, new neutral-colored paint! I often get asked about the paint colors in our home, so if you love neutral colors too, then this post is for you.
Gray
Often, when it comes to neutral colors, white or off-white is the first paint color that comes to mind. But you don’t have to stick to just whites. Gray is a perfect neutral, and one of my favorite colors to use in our home. Sherwin Wiliams has several beautiful shades, including Quicksilver, Silverstrand, and Repose Gray. These grays add just the right amount of color to any room in your home while keeping your space feeling bright and airy.
Greige
Created by combining beige with gray, greige paint is another great neutral paint color choice. Greige paint colors instantly create a classic, cozy feel in your room. Dorian Gray and Agreeable Gray are popular choices. Or, try my favorite color, Pavestone.
Blue/Green
Blue and green paint colors, like Sherwin William’s Sea Salt, are a great calming, neutral color. Rarified Air is a softy misty blue. It is the perfect color to use for creating a peaceful bathroom retreat. With more green undertones, Rain Washed is another one of my favorites.
White
When it comes to neutrals, you can never go wrong with a classic white. Alabaster is a beautiful, off-white color, and my go-to white! I have used this color in our living room, kitchen, and dining room. With just a hint of beige undertones, the paint color is rich and creamy without being yellow.
For true whites, my favorite is Sherwin William’s, Pure White. It is the color I recommend most for painting cabinets and wood trim, and the color I used to update the trim in our home.
How To Choose The Best Neutral Paint Colors
Now that I’ve shared some of my top picks for paint colors, I’m going to share some tips on how to choose the best neutral paint colors for your home.
Have you ever picked out “the perfect paint color” for your walls only to find out it was all wrong? I know I have! Paint can look different in your home than it does in the store, depending on the amount of natural light in your space. Now, before purchasing any paint, I always take the time to sample colors.
Paint Samples
Samplize is an online retailer that offers peel and stick paint samples. The samples are painted with the real paint color and include some of the top brands like Sherwin Williams, Benjamin Moore, and Farrow & Ball. No more sample cans or messy clean-up. Just peel and stick your sample to see what the color looks like in your home. Samplize samples won’t damage your walls, and they can be easily moved and reused many times.
Of course, if you prefer that fresh paint smell, you can purchase small sample cans at most home improvement stores. When you are done with the samples, remember to safely dispose of them. Or consider donating your (non-expired) paint to a local nonprofit in need. Be sure to check with nonprofits in your area like Habitat for Humanity Restore to see if they accept these kinds of donations.
I hope you found this roundup of the best neutral paint colors helpful. I’d love to know what your go-to paint color is. Be sure to let me know in the comments.
