The Best Chocolate Covered Peanut Butter Balls
There’s no better combination than chocolate and peanut butter.
When it comes to sweet treats, it’s arguably my favorite.

This recipe for chocolate covered peanut butter balls with Rice Krispies comes from a treasured cookbook my 3rd-grade classmates and I gifted to our parents all the way back in December of 1991.
For over 30 years, this incredibly easy Christmas candy recipe has been a staple in our holiday baking rotation

And for a good reason….these peanut butter balls dipped in chocolate are so darn delicious you won’t be able to eat just one
Ingredients for Chocolate Covered Peanut Butter Balls
- 1 cup creamy peanut butter
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 cups confectioners sugar
- 2 cups Rice Krispies
- 16 ounces milk chocolate chips or melting chocolate candies
- 1/4 cup finely chopped roasted salted peanuts (optional)
How To Make Chocolate Covered Peanut Butter Balls
First, in a large mixing bowl, beat the creamy peanut butter and butter with a mixer at medium speed until it’s smooth.

Next, slowly beat in the confectioners’ sugar.
I recommend only mixing in one cup at a time. (Unless you want an explosion of powdered sugar all over your kitchen!)

Then, gently stir in your crisp rice cereal.
I tend to use the generic store brand, but a name brand like Rice Krispies would work, too.

Next, roll your peanut butter mixture into 1-inch balls and place them on a baking sheet lined with wax or parchment paper.
*Note: I like to use a medium-sized cookie scoop for the peanut butter filling to ensure the balls are uniform, but you can skip the scoop and just use your hands if you prefer.

Once you’ve placed all the peanut butter balls on your cookie sheet, it’s time to melt your chocolate.
Melt the chocolate in the microwave in a small glass mixing bowl in 10-15 second increments, and stir as needed until fully melted.
Or you can melt it on the stove using a double boiler.

Next, use a fork to dip each peanut butter ball in the melted chocolate coating.
Let the excess chocolate drip off, and gently place each chocolate covered peanut butter ball on the lined baking sheet.

Sprinkle with chopped peanuts, if desired, and then freeze the peanut butter balls for 15-20 minutes, or until the chocolate coating is firm.

Once chilled, remove the chocolate covered peanut butter balls from the pan and store them in an airtight food storage container for up to 1 week.

This recipe for chocolate dipped peanut butter balls makes about 30 chocolate covered peanut balls, but can easily be doubled (or tripled!) if you’d like to make some pb balls to share with friends or to give as gifts.

Chocolate peanut butter balls always disappear quickly in our house, and I’m sure they will quickly become a favorite with your family, too!
