Festive Christmas Dinner Party
It’s supper club time once again, and this month we’re excited to bring you ideas and inspiration for how to style a festive table for Christmas.
We’re thrilled to welcome Kelly from The Tattered Pew as our guest this month. Kelly is a dear friend of mine. I’ve been lucky to meet her several times over the last few years and even roomed with her this summer at the Haven blogging conference.
She has such a talent for sharing beautiful home decor and DIYs. And just wait until you see her gorgeous new home!
I know you’ll love Kelly as much as I do, so I hope you’ll take some time to stop by her blog, and say hi.

If you are joining me from Stacy over at Bricks ‘n Blooms, thank you for stopping by! To all of my new friends who are visiting for the first time, welcome to MWLS. I’m so happy to have you.
I’m Jen. A wife, mom of two, and lifelong Nebraskan. Here at MWLS, I love to share made-from-scratch recipes, tips for how to decorate for the seasons, and simple do-it-yourself projects. Whether it’s a furniture flip or a room refresh, my goal is to show you that you don’t need to spend a lot of money to create a beautiful and inviting home that you love.
Simple Blue And Green Christmas Tablescape With Tartan Plaid
This year’s blue, green, and tartan plaid Christmas tablescape has been nearly a year (Yes. One full year.) in the making. I’m so excited to share it with you today.
Now, before you think I’m crazy, there are a few things to keep in mind. First. Bloggers are known to deck the halls way earlier than most normal people. It comes with the territory.
Second. Event planning is my full-time job. It’s in my nature to think ahead. So last year, when I spotted the most beautiful matte blue ornaments at an after-holiday sale, the wheels in my head instantly started to turn, and this year’s blue, green, and tartan plaid Christmas theme was born.

Creating A Centerpiece
Inspiration for my centerpiece came from the large paper snowflakes hanging from our chandelier. They were another post-holiday sale find that I couldn’t pass up.

I love how they make the dining room feel extra magical and remind me of a wintry forest scene like one that you might see on the front of an old vintage Christmas postcard.

I used a tartan plaid scarf as a table runner and added a pair of snowy grapevine trees. Mine trees are several years old, but I found a similar style [HERE].

Then I draped a pine garland along the length of the table. To give the centerpiece some extra fullness, I mixed in some pinecones and a few different winter floral picks to add some frosty touches.

To finish the centerpiece, I used some gold and white ornaments and a strand of twinkle lights.

You can never have too many twinkle lights at Christmas, right?
Setting The Table

For the place setting, I started with some class chargers. The gold rims add a festive touch and tie in with the ornaments in the centerpiece and on the tree.

Then I set the table with my everyday stoneware dishes. I love how the rims of the plates and bowls have a delicate design that looks like vintage lace. Simple, yet classy.

To finish the place settings I used some gold flatware and champagne classes. This gold flatware has become my go-to set for special occasions since I first used it for last year’s Christmas brunch tablescape.
The Festive Final Touches
For me, it’s the details that make a table setting special, and I love to find creative and unique ways to add those finishing touches to each of my tablescapes.

When I think back to that snowy scene on the vintage postcard, I can almost picture an old horse-drawn sleigh and hear the bells ringing out through the crisp winter air.

So it only seemed fitting to use some gold bells on my table to add a festive holiday touch. I also tied on a bit of green velvet ribbon to each bell for some added color.

To finish the table, I used some elegant green napkins. Then I wrapped them with the new DIY napkin rings that I made. I love how they turned out, and they were so simple to make, too!
I think the napkin rings add just the right amount of Christmas cheer but are natural enough that I can use them all winter long. Don’t be surprised if they show up on next month’s tablescape too!
