Red, White, And Blue Summer Home Tour
If you happen to follow along with my family’s adventures through my weekly blog recaps, then you know that we are on the go. A lot!
Lately, with all the busyness, I’ve become drawn to the “less is more” philosophy. So, when it came time to get ready for this year’s summer tour, my goal was to create a casual and lived-in look throughout our home using my favorite vintage finds with just a few touches of red, white, and blue decor sprinkled in.
My tour might remind you a bit of last year’s patriotic summer home tour. And really, that’s because not much has changed.
While it may not be the “in thing to do” in the world of home decor blogging to share a similar look two years in a row, I hope this tour helps encourage you to find new and creative ways to style your home using items you already own.
Because regardless of the season, the truth is that you don’t need to go out and buy the newest and most expensive items or follow the trends to create a beautiful and inviting home that is uniquely you.
So, if you love to decorate on a budget, shop for vintage finds, and mix and match decor styles in your home, welcome!
Come on in and join me for my tour as I share how I decorated our home with affordable red, white, and blue decor to create a casual and laid-back patriotic look for summer.
The Entry
As you step into our entryway you’ll be greeted by one of my favorite vintage furniture pieces.
I rescued and restored this vintage dresser a few years back. It was quite the labor of love, but so worth it to bring this beauty back to life.
(You can read the story of how I found this pretty piece and check out my DIY vintage dresser makeover tutorial here.)
It has been the perfect addition to our entry/dining room space. Besides serving as a side table to display seasonal decor, I also use it to store things like extra table linens and my collection of various napkin rings and chargers.
Storage space is at a premium in our home, so when a piece of furniture is beautiful AND functions as an extra cabinet or cupboard to stash away some of the clutter? I count that as a win in my book.
Another vintage treasure that I love is this antique typewriter. It has found its home in various corners of our house over the years, but I love it most displayed here in the entry.
The typewriter tends to look a bit sad and lonely on its own so I always like to add a little something to it. For the summer, I tucked a few antique postcards into the top of it.
A simple way I added touches of red, white, and blue around our home for my summer tour is by displaying a variety of American flags. Above the dresser, I draped an old American flag.
And to finish the display on my dresser, I added a framed print of sheet music for the Star-Spangled Banner. My print is several years old, but I found a similar Star-Spangled Banner sheet music print that you can download online here.
The DIY Drop Zone
Directly across from the dresser, you’ll discover our makeshift drop zone. I would like to say this gets regular use in our house. But, in reality, most shoes, coats, and bags tend to gather in a haphazard pile near the garage door instead.
The coat hooks and storage have become more decorative than functional, but, I’m more than happy to style the shelf and hooks with decor each season instead.
I kept things simple with just a few transitional pieces, including a woven basket with greenery and a denim jacket.
And to carry out the red, white, and blue summer home tour theme, I popped in a cheap dollar-store flag that I found in my stash of patriotic home decor.

The Dining Room
If you’re familiar with my Instagram page or enjoy my monthly supper club series, you’ll instantly recognize the next space I’m about to share with you.
Our dining room holds a special place in my heart with its light and airy ambiance.
It’s easily my favorite room in our home, although our busy school-year schedule often finds us eating in shifts and keeps us from using this space as much as we’d like.
Now that school is out, I’m hopeful we can put our dining room table to good use and enjoy more family dinners together.
I kept the decorations to a minimum, ensuring that the table can be easily cleared when needed. I added some red and white striped napkins along with some blue transferware dishes.
And I finished my simple 4th of July-inspired table with a bouquet of fresh summer blooms that I put together using some inexpensive flowers from the grocery store.
The dining room buffet also got a mini patriotic makeover thanks to some weathered wood decor, a stack of vintage red books, and some mini American flags tucked into a jar with greenery.

The Bedroom
Our bedroom is the final stop on my red, white, and blue summer home tour, and it continues the patriotic theme.
I kept the same blue bed pillows and cozy throw from last year, as well as the same oversized blue and white striped pillows.
The one new thing I added was the small check lumbar pillow from Joanne. The color and the print match perfectly, and I love that I can use it year-round in other rooms in our home.
The simple bedding lends to the cozy and casual feel of the rest of our home.
And it would seem that our Himalayan, Chloe, agrees.
On the nightstand, I kept my everyday decor including some stacked books, a lamp, and some faux greenery in a whitewashed woven basket.
An antique alarm clock I stumbled upon at a local antique store adds a vintage touch. (And it still functions flawlessly!)
