Ingredients for Homemade Pizza Rolls in the Air Fryer
For the Pizza Rolls
- 24 refrigerated wonton wrappers
- 1 large egg beaten
- 1 (14 oz) jar pizza sauce
- 4 ounces mozzarella cheese, finely diced *
- ¼ cup pepperoni, finely diced ( I like to use the Hormel Twin Pack pepperoni sticks)
- Extra Virgin olive oil (for basting)
For the Garnish
- ¼ cup grated parmesan cheese
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 Tablespoon fresh chopped parsley
*Note: Pre-shredded cheese doesn’t melt well, so for this recipe, it’s best to use a block of mozzarella cheese and dice it.
Other Pizza Roll Filling Ideas
Want to try making different kinds of pizza rolls in your air fryer? Here are a few ideas. Just be careful not to overload them – two teaspoons of filling per roll should be plenty.
Italian Style Pizza Rolls – Craving a classic Italian taste? Replace the pepperoni with cooked and crumbled ground sausage.
Cheese Lovers Pizza Rolls – Skip the meat altogether and opt for a cheese-only roll.
Loaded Veggie Pizza Rolls – For a veggie-packed option, sauté some mushrooms, onions, and peppers and toss them into the filling before assembling the rolls.
Equipment Needed
How to Make Crispy Pizza Rolls in the Air Fryer
Step 1: Prep Your Wonton Wrappers
First, grab a few wonton wrappers and lay them out on a plate or cutting board.
While you work, don’t forget to cover the rest of the wonton wrappers with a damp paper towel to keep them from drying out.
Then use a pastry brush to give each wrapper a quick brush around the edges with the beaten egg.
Step 2: Fill Your Pizza Rolls
Place about ½ teaspoon of pizza sauce in the center of a wonton wrapper, towards the bottom corner.
Then add a teaspoon of finely diced mozzarella cheese and your diced pepperoni on top of the sauce.
Fold the bottom corner of the wonton wrapper up over the pizza filling and roll it forward, tucking in the sides as you go.
Keep rolling and tucking the edges in, and then press them together firmly to seal.
Step 3: Cook Pizza Rolls in the Air Fryer
Arrange the assembled pizza rolls on a baking sheet.
Then use a clean basting brush to brush each roll with extra virgin olive oil.
Pop a few pizza rolls into your air fryer and cook them at 375°F for 3-5 minutes, then flip them over and cook for another 3 minutes.
Air frying pizza rolls doesn’t take long so keep an eye on them—as soon as the cheese starts to melt or bubble, they’re ready!
Step 4: Garnish and Serve
While your pizza rolls cook, prepare your parmesan cheese mixture for the garnish.
In a small mixing bowl, combine ¼ cup grated parmesan cheese with ½ teaspoon garlic powder and 1 Tablespoon fresh chopped parsley.
When the pizza rolls are finished cooking in the air fryer, toss them in the topping mixture and serve immediately.
You can serve these pizza rolls with marinara sauce, or if you’re a true Midwesterner, you might prefer to dunk them in a creamy ranch dressing.
