Spring Fling Supper Club
Happy spring, friends! It’s hard to believe, but March is already coming to a close. And the end of the month means that it’s time to join my blogging friends Anne, AnnMarie, Michele, Rachel, and Stacy for our latest supper club.
This monthly blog series started more than two years ago during the height of the pandemic. Since we couldn’t gather in person, virtual parties were the next best thing. And so our little supper club was born.
Each month we share decorating ideas and recipes with you centered around a different theme.
This month we are celebrating the end of a looooong, cold winter with a spring fling party!
Each month, we invite a guest blogger to join us, and I am thrilled to welcome back my friend Jennifer at Cottage On Bunker Hill for her second guest-hosting stint.
I hope you will take a few minutes to swing by her blog, say hi, and read her tips for styling a pretty spring table.
Welcome To Midwest Life And Style
Whether you are an old friend or this is your first time visiting, I am so glad you found my little corner of the web.
For those who are new, here, welcome! I’m Jen, a wife, mom of two, and the one-woman show behind this blog. When I am not busy with mom or blog duties, I also work full-time as an event planner at a local university
Like most moms, I wear many hats, so caffeine is a must-have for me daily. I live on coffee (with a healthy amount of creamer) and Diet Dr Pepper. And I am not sure what I would do without my planner or sticky notes!
You will find a bit of everything here at MWLS. From thrifty DIYs to recipes, decor styling tips, and more. I love to share about all the things that make a house a home.
If you are not already a member of the MWLS family, I would love to have you subscribe and join me!
You will get emails and weekly updates on all the latest happenings here on the blog and on my other social channels. Plus you will get exclusive access to my full library of free printables.
But that’s enough about me. Let’s dive into my tips to style a cheery garden tablescape this spring.
How To Style A Cheery Garden Tablescape For Spring
If you have read any of my previous tablescape posts, then you know that I always like to start with one piece that inspires me.
That piece serves as the catalyst for the rest of my tablescape and helps me work through the creative process.
Often times it may be something I find in the thrift store. Other times it is as simple as a piece of fabric, or an image I see on Pinterest.
For this table, I drew inspiration from the season itself. When I hear the word spring, I instantly think of three things. Green grass, fresh flowers, and gardening.
And each of those three things provided me with ideas to style this cheery garden tablescape for spring.
How To Set The Table
When it comes to styling a table, I like to work in layers. I share this tip often. But it’s one I swear by and put into practice anytime I create a new tablescape.
To style my spring garden tablescape, I started with a blue and white striped tablecloth that I recently purchased online.
I love the subtle color that it brings to the table, and I just love the tassels. Aren’t they fun?
Next, I added a white runner down the center of the table. The runner I had was a bit skinnier than I liked. So I created a make-shift one by folding a large tablecloth in half length-wise.
Then I added this pretty moss runner in the center.
How To Create Garden-Inspired Place Settings
To set each place setting I started with a weathered gray wood charger. Then I used the large dinner plates from my favorite cream-colored stoneware set.
I love the scalloped pattern around the edges and how versatile they are. They’re great for everyday use or they can be used for more special occasions.
To bring in some more color and pattern, I placed a blue and white gingham napkin on top of each plate.
Then I added some small salad plates with a cute bunny pattern. I saw these plates this spring and couldn’t pass them up. Nothing says spring like bunnies!
The day I photographed this tablescape I found these adorable vintage plates at Goodwill. For only $1 a piece, I knew they were meant to be.
They tie in perfectly with the napkin and tablecloth and are the ideal size for my flowerpot name cards.
I made the names with wood stakes and some scrabble tiles that I had left over from a DIY garden marker project I did a few summers ago.
I even found some matching blue and white gingham ribbon and glued it around the top of each flower pot.
To finish each place setting I added some simple silver flatware and some hobnail drinking glasses.
How To Create A Centerpiece With Grocery Store Flowers
I love to use fresh flowers in many of my tablescapes, and this spring table is no exception.
Trader Joe’s has the best flowers…and they are affordable. I grabbed one bunch and paired it with some eucalyptus to create this pretty spring arrangement.
To keep with the garden theme I used a galvanized watering can for a vase. And to add some whimsy and a bit of fun, I added a few carrots to the bouquet as well.
Ideas To Turn Garden Accessories Into Table Decor
Creating a memorable tablescape is all about the details. So I added a few garden accessories to my table to bring my cheery spring garden theme to life.
In addition to the watering can, and garden marker place cards, I also added a bunch of old flower pots to the table.
Some garden gloves from the dollar store make for a unique silverware pocket.
And the addition of seed packets in a few of the pots is an easy and affordable way to add some spring flair too.

If you are looking for menu options for your garden party, here are a few ideas.

Jen – I love this tablescape! My favorite part is that you used a watering can for the centerpiece. I also love how you used scrabble letters to make people’s names and placed them in a small gardening pot. So much inspiration. Also HOW ON EARTH do you do all that you do? Blogging, Moming, event planning . . . holy smokes . . .

Thank you so much, AnnMarie. The scrabble tiles were leftovers from another project years ago. I had been hanging on to them forever, and I’m so glad I did. The flower pot place cards were a fun way to use them.
