How To Create A Rustic And Welcoming Entryway For Fall
Fall is the perfect time to cozy up your home with rustic and natural touches. Since our entry is the first place guests see when they arrive, I always want it to feel welcoming and inviting.
So, if you’re looking for easy and affordable ways to add fall touches to your home, I have some simple tips to help.
Here are a few ideas for how to style a cozy and rustic entryway for fall using natural elements and charming cottage-style decor.
Embrace Autumn With Fall Foliage
Using a mix of seasonal foliage is an easy way to create an inviting fall entry. Whether you choose real or faux leaves, branches, or even pumpkins and gourds, these elements can quickly make your entryway feel cozy and charming.
For a pop of color, I hung a small magnolia and pinecone wreath on the back of our front door.
If you’re feeling crafty this fall, try making a DIY corn husk wreath or fall floral basket. Both are beautiful and an easy way to add a touch of autumn charm to your home.
Don’t be afraid to use more than one type of rustic-looking fall floral when decorating your entryway! Mixing and matching fall foliage is a great way to create a more realistic and interesting display as I did here in both my mailbox and straw marketbag.
Foliage comes in a variety of colors, shapes, and sizes, so you can experiment to create unique and eye-catching fall arrangements that best fit your home and style.
Decorating Tip: Add some pinecones, twigs, or other natural elements to your arrangement. This will help to ground your fall foliage and make it look more natural.
Use Natural Fall Materials
Fall is all about nature, so bring the outdoors in and use natural materials to decorate your entryway.
I added a touch of rustic charm to my vintage dresser, by filling several amber bottles with small twigs and some dried fall florals.
To give your entryway a rustic feeling for fall, you can also hang a wreath made from dried and pressed leaves, or place a bowl of acorns or pinecones on a console table.
Dried gourds and pumpkins also make beautiful and unique decor. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes, and they can be used to make wreaths and centerpieces, or displayed as part of a simple fall vignette.
Decorating Tip: Faux pumpkins are a great alternative to real pumpkins. Not only are they more durable and easier to care for, but they can be used year after year, saving you time and money.
Add Warm Autumn Colors
Fall is a time for rich and vibrant colors, so look to use shades of deep orange, golden yellow, and coppery brown in your entryway decor to create a cozy and rustic feel.
I carried the rustic theme from our entryway into our dining room by placing some dried fall leaves in a vintage Demijohn bottle. I love the beautiful copper colors mixed with the subtle shades of greens.
Chippy wood candlesticks stacked on top of vintage books add to the overall rustic charm.
I styled the table with coordinating rust-colored linens and topped each place setting with a small fall wreath.
And I draped a DIY fall book page leaf garland above my vintage leaded glass window.
Besides fall foliage, you can also add color to your home with decor. Amber glass bottles, vintage brass candlesticks, books, and old wooden dough bowls are all examples of inexpensive everyday pieces that can be used to add warm autumn colors to any space.
By placing these items throughout your entryway you can easily achieve that rustic, fall look that sets the mood for the season.

Create A Cozy Feeling With Texture And Fall Fabrics
Create a cozy feeling in your entry with fall fabrics like rugs, decorative pillows, or plaid throw blankets.
A cozy neutral plaid throw tucked neatly into a hanging straw basket is a simple yet stylish way to welcome autumn.
And a cozy throw pillow on a sturdy old farmhouse chair provides a welcoming place for guests to sit down and take off their shoes when they arrive at our home.
Incorporate Vintage And Antique Finds
One of the best ways to add character to your entryway is to use vintage and antique finds.
If you know me, then you know I love to use vintage decor throughout our home year-round.
The vintage decor doesn’t need to be specific to the season, but rather find creative ways to style each piece based on the time of year.
Here are some other examples of rustic, vintage finds you can use in your fall entryway decor:
- A vintage milk bench, stool, or church pew: A vintage bench, stool, or church pew is a great place for guests to sit down and take off their shoes and you can use it to display fall decor like a wreath or an old wood crate filled with pumpkins.
- Old wicker or wire baskets: Use baskets to display a small collection, or use them to display fall florals like dried hydrangeas or pinecones.
- Vintage postcards: Add a touch of nostalgia to your entryway by tucking old postcards into a vintage mailbox, typewriter, or use them to create a one-of-a-kind garland.
- Old glass bottles: Use several sizes of glass bottles as part of a vignette and fill them with fall leaves or small twigs.
- Vintage suitcases or trunks: Vintage suitcases or trunks can be used to store shoes, boots, or other items in your entryway. You can also use them to display fall decor, such as pumpkins, gourds, or a collection of vintage throw blankets.
