Homemade Hot Spiced Apple Cider
We are all friends here, right? I hope so because I have a confession to make. I don’t like pumpkin spiced drinks. There. I said it. Please tell me I’m not the only one, am I? And while I am not a fan of PSL (or any other pumpkin-flavored drink), I do LOVE apple cider.
The fall means apple season, so it’s the perfect time to share this quick and easy homemade spiced apple cider. This recipe is made on the stovetop and uses a dutch oven or large stockpot.
Ready in less than 30 minutes, it tastes like all of the things that I love most about this time of year, poured into a cup of cozy goodness. And the fragrant spices will make your home smell ah-mazing! What’s not to love?
Ingredients
Homemade Hot Spiced Apple Cider Ingredients
- 4 cups apple cider
- 1 apple (cut into thin slices)
- 1 orange (cut into thin slices)
- 3 cinnamon sticks
- 1 teaspoon whole allspice
*Note, if you want to add a little something extra to your cider, you can also use spices like ginger, cloves, or star anise. (I just prefer to keep mine basic.)
Instructions
Homemade Hot Spiced Apple Cider Instructions
Clean the apple and the orange. Then, carefully cut both into slices about 1/4″ – 1/2″ thick. I like to use my mandolin slicer to make sure my slices are the same thickness, but you can also cut the fruit the good old fashioned way with a knife and cutting board.
Next, pour four cups of apple cider in your dutch oven. For the sake of time, I just used store bought cider, but if you prefer you can juice your own apples.
Then add the sliced fruit, allspice, and cinnamon sticks. Turn the stove on medium-high heat and bring the cider to a simmer for 10 to 15 minutes.
How To Serve The Cider
The apple cider is best served fresh. I like to serve it in my favorite glass mugs. Aren’t they pretty? Leftover cider can be stored in the fridge for up to 5 days. Just save your empty apple cider containers and reuse them.
And if you’d like to make some apple cider that is geared more toward the adult crowd, you can also add a splash of bourbon or rum. Yum!
That’s it! Simple and oh, so good! Don’t forget, if you enjoyed this post, pin it below. And for more tasty inspiration, be sure to check out all of my recipes [HERE].
Cheers!
