Saint Patrick’s Day Dinner Party
Last month, I joined some friends for a new blog series based on the idea of a (virtual) supper club! Similar to a progressive dinner, it is a fun way to stay connected with family and friends even when we can’t be together in person. Each month my friends and I will share a tablescape and a menu centered around a new theme. Since March is just a few days away, this month’s theme is Saint Patrick’s Day.
To start this month’s supper club, each friend is sharing her own styled tablescape, as well as ideas for hosting a Saint Patrick’s Day dinner. You can see all of the tablescapes and posts linked at the bottom of the page. And don’t forget to check out our dinner menu filled with delicious St. Pat’s recipes, including my garlic and chive roasted baby potatoes.

Elegant Green and Gold Saint Patrick’s Day Tablescape
Setting The Table
For Saint Patrick’s Day, I wanted to create a tablescape that acknowledged the holiday’s Irish heritage, without being too kitschy or themed. The result? An elegant green and gold tablescape that’s perfect for a Saint Patrick’s Day dinner party.
For the place settings, I used some gold-rimmed chargers and layered them with white dishware. I’ve had these dishes for over a year now and I love how classic they are. They are simple enough for everyday use, but they can also be used in a more formal setting.
To finish the place setting I used my favorite gold silverware paired with dark hunter green napkins. I love the contrast between the two colors and how they help to tie all of the elements of the table together.
A Simple Green and Gold Centerpiece
After a loooong cold winter, it’s no secret that I have been counting down the days until the arrival of sunshine and warm weather. With that in mind, I opted to create a centerpiece using items that could easily transition from Saint Patrick’s Day to a more neutral spring look.
I first spotted these heather plants at Trader Joe’s while picking out flowers for last month’s Galentine’s tablescape. I knew that they would be perfect for an early spring look, so I grabbed a few and used them as the starting point for my inspiration. What I didn’t plan on? My green thumb (or lack thereof) rearing its ugly head. I can grow an entire garden full of vegetables from seeds, but ask me to keep an indoor plant alive? That’s a big ole’ nope. Within a few days, all of my plants except one turned from a beautiful green to a blah brown. Oops!
A Change of Plans
Time to move on to plan B. I decided to try my luck (pun intended) with some ivy instead that I bought at, you guessed it…Trader Joe’s! I removed it from the purple pot it came in and placed it in an old brass planter that I scored at Goodwill a few years ago. To add a bit more color, I also used some brass candlestick holders that I found while shopping my home decor stash. I just mixed them in here and there with the greenery to create a balanced look.
Overall, it was a simple and budget-friendly way to add some elegant green and gold touches to my Saint Patrick’s Day tablescape. Oh, and what about the ivy plant, you might ask? So far, it has faired much better than the heather plants. Maybe there is hope for this want to be plant lady yet!
The Luck Of The Irish
Irish folklore says that fairies put a pot of gold coins at the end of each rainbow. Then, it is a leprechaun’s job to guard them. You won’t find any rainbows or leprechauns here, but I did add a little nod to the guys in green by including some DIY pots of gold at each place setting.
To make the pots of gold, I used some plastic cauldrons and filled each one with a little bit of moss. Then I just added a few chocolate coins and tada! DIY pots of gold in less than five minutes. They make for a great little after-dinner dessert, or they could be a fun take-away gift for a small group of party guests.
To finish my elegant green and gold Saint Patrick’s Day tablescape, I used some mini gold frames to display a Saint Patrick’s Day quote that I found on Pinterest. The quote is an Irish friendship blessing, and it goes like this.
An Irish Friendship Blessing
“A good friend is like a four leaf clover. Hard to find and lucky to have.”
I couldn’t agree more. I am so lucky and honored to have wonderful friends and readers like you! If you’d like to create your own elegant green and gold tablescape for Saint Patrick’s day, you can shop my post. Just click on the images below.
