Other Quiche Fillings
Looking to mix it up?
Try adding popular quiche fillings like sautéed veggies such as diced onions or fresh mushrooms.
For meats, you can swap the bacon for diced ham or crumbled sausage.
Or, skip the meat entirely for a vegetarian-friendly holiday quiche!
How to Make Easy Christmas Morning Quiche
Step 1: Make Your Crust
For this recipe, I used a frozen store-bought pie crust to save some time.
If you do the same, be sure to bake the pie crust according to the directions on the package first.
If you want to use a homemade crust, I recommend this recipe from Betty Crocker.
It’s light, flaky, and turns out perfect every time!
Step 2: Make Your Quiche Filling
Once the pie crust is baked, set it aside to let it cool.
(You’ll be coming back to it shortly.)
Then preheate your oven to 350℉ and begin to prepare your quiche filling.
In a medium-sized mixing bowl, add the eggs, half and half, salt, and pepper.
Then beat your egg mixture until it is light and fluffy and set it aside.
After the egg mixture is prepared, cook the bacon in a skillet over medium heat until crispy. (The crispier the better!)
Alternatively, if you prefer you can cook your bacon in the microwave using a microwave safe bacon tray.
Once cooked, place the bacon on paper towels to drain and cool.
Meanwhile, wash and chop the spinach.
Then, chop the cooled bacon and sprinkle both the bacon and spinach in the bottom of your baked pie crust.
Step 3: Bake Your Quiche
Now comes the fun part!
Carefully pour the quiche filling into your pie crust over the spinch and bacon.
Then, sprinkle the shredded swiss cheese on top and pop it into the oven to bake for 30 minutes.
Aftr 30 minutes, remove the quiche and add thinly sliced Roma tomatoes on the top.
(If you don’t like tomatoes, or just prefer to skip them, this step is optional.)
I’m not usually a fan of tomatoes, but my husband loves them.
Plus, I love the pretty red, Christmasy color they add to the dish!
After the quiche has been topped with tomatoes, return it to the oven and cook for an additional 20-30 minutes or until the middle is set and a toothpick comes out clean when placed in the center.
How To Serve the Quiche and Store Leftovers
Once the quiche is baked, let it cool for 15 minutes before slicing to serve.
To store any leftovers, simply cover your pie pan with plastic wrap, or place the remaining pieces of quiche in an airtight food storage container and keep in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.
Tips for the Best Christmas Quiche
The first time I made this recipe, the egg mixture overflowed, and I ended up losing half of my quiche to the kitchen floor while trying to place it in the oven.
Talk about a fail!
Here are a few tips to help you avoid the same mistake and ensure a perfect Christmas quiche every time!
- Place the pie crust in the oven before pouring in the egg mixture—It’s much easier and helps prevent spills. (Why didn’t I think of that the first time?) Pull the rack out slightly to carefully pour the mixture into the crust.
- Place the pie crust on a lower oven rack – To make it even easier, place your quiche on the lowest rack in your oven, pour in the filling, and sprinkle on the cheese.
- Finally, put a baking sheet underneath the quiche—If it spills over, you won’t have to clean the oven later. Because let’s be honest, no one has time for that!
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I make this holiday quiche ahead of time?
A: Yes, quiche can be made ahead! You can either prepare the filling in advance, cover it, and bake it fresh in the morning, or fully bake the quiche, let it cool, and store it in the refrigerator for a few days. When you’re ready to serve, simply reheat it in a moderate oven.
Q: How do I make sure my quiche crust is crispy?
A: To avoid a soggy crust, pre-bake the pastry on its own, also known as “blind baking,” before pouring in you quiche filling.
Q: How do I know when my quiche is done?
A: A quiche is done when the edges are firm, and the center has a slight jiggle when you gently shake it. It will finish setting as it cools.
Q: How do I reheat my quiche in the oven?
A: Remove your quiche from the fridge and let it come to room temperature for even reheating. Then place it on a baking sheet, cover the crust with foil, and bake for about 15 minutes at 350°F, checking the internal temperature to ensure it reaches 165°F. Every oven is different, so adjust as needed!
Q: How do I reheat my quiche in the microwave?
A: Remove your quiche from the fridge and let it come to room temperature for even reheating. Place the leftover quiche on a microwave-safe plate and heat in 30-second increments until it reaches your desired temperature.
