Create A Unique Christmas Gift Basket With Home Canned Foods
It’s easy to get caught up in all of the hustle and bustle of the busy holiday season. Especially when it comes to finding that perfect gift. A gift basket with home canned foods is an easy way to create a unique Christmas gift for anyone on your list.
I love to build my gift baskets with a theme in mind. Today I’m sharing this fun and inexpensive charcuterie board basket that I created with some pickles and some jelly I made using products from Mrs. Wages®.
Gift Basket Supplies
What I love most about creating gift baskets is that the options are literally endless. For my gift, I wanted a rustic look, so I purchased a wood crate to use as my “basket”. But you can use just about anything! This is your chance to be creative. Go for it!
Here is a list of suggested supplies to make your own charcuterie board gift basket with home canned goods.
- Basket, crate, or something similar
- Shredded paper filler
- Wood serving tray
- Holiday kitchen towel
- Home canned foods
- Cheese knife set
- Crackers
- Holiday ribbon or bow
- Printable gift tag
What Types of Home Canned Goods To Include In Your Gift Basket
Once again, the options are just about endless. But today, for this charcuterie board gift basket, I’m going to share more about my homemade pickles and jalapeno cranberry jelly that I made with the help of some mixes and products from Mrs. Wages.
Mrs. Wages® has been taking all of the guesswork out of making homemade canned goods all the way back since the 1950s. Seventy years later, and it’s easier than ever to do canning at home. Just add a packet of any of their mixes to some fresh veggies, and voila!
In my basket, I included two different types of pickles. First, I added some dill pickles I made earlier this summer with a packet of Mrs. Wages® Quick Process Kosher Dill Pickle Mix and some fresh cucumbers from my garden.
Mrs. Wages has several pickle mixes, including Polish Dill, Sweet Pickle, Spicy Pickle, and a Zesty Bread and Butter Mix, but the Kosher Dill is my favorite.
I also added some pickle spears that I made using one of Mrs. Wages 1 Step® Mixes. This was my first time using the 1 Step Pickle Mix and I couldn’t believe how easy it was. No cooking and no fancy canning equipment required.
In addition to the pickles, I included some homemade jalapeno cranberry jelly. It’s sweet with just a hint of spice and is the perfect jelly to serve over the holidays with all of your favorite crackers or bread.
How To Assemble Your Gift Basket
To assemble your gift, start with your basket or crate and fill it with shredded paper. I just kept it simple and chose white, but you can use any color you want. Use a mix of red and green for a festive holiday look, or pick a color that coordinates with the theme of your basket and foods.
Next, start to add in your gift basket items. First, I put in a round wood serving tray. Because you can’t have a charcuterie board without the board, right?
Then I tucked in a blue and green holiday kitchen towel. I love how the colors complement the home canned goods and matches my blue, green, and tartan plaid color scheme for Christmas this year.
Next, place your home canned foods in the basket. In addition to the pickles and jelly, I also added a few extra packages of Mrs. Wages Pickle Mixes and 1 Step Mixes.
To finish the basket I added a few packages of crackers and a cheese knife and spreader. And that’s it!
All that’s left to do is pick up some meat and cheese to complete the charcuterie board.
