Back To School Breakfast Bar
Summertime is almost over, and soon it will be time to go back to school. So, this year I decided to set up a fun back to school breakfast bar to help start the new year off right for my husband and my girls.
Breakfast Bar Menu
I chose to keep the menu for the breakfast bar simple with just a few basics. The spread includes fresh fruit, milk, juice, and some of our favorites from General Mills like Lucky Charms™, Yoplait™ Strawberry GoGurt, and Nature Valley™ Sweet and Salty Dark Chocolate Peanut Almond Bars.
I got all of the groceries for the breakfast bar from our local Hy-Vee. We are lucky to have a store just five minutes from our house, so it is our go-to for all of our grocery shopping needs.
We are always on the go. Especially during the school year. Work. School. Dance. Sports. Repeat. We cram it all in! I know so many of you can relate. That’s why I love to shop using their convenient Aisles Online grocery ordering system.
Shopping online is easy, and anything that can save me a bit of time is always a big win! I can even place an order using the Hy-Vee mobile app right from my phone while waiting for my girls at the gym or dance studio.
I love that we can choose a pick-up time that works for our schedule. Or, if our week is extra hectic, we can get our groceries delivered.
Support Your Schools
Some of you may remember previous posts where I have mentioned that my mom teaches. But it’s not just my mom. I come from a whole family of teachers! Both of my parents are teachers. My younger sister is a teacher, and my husband, Kirk, is a teacher, too! And with both of our girls in school, I know how important it is to support teachers and local schools.
Since 1996, Box Tops for Education™ has made it easy for you to earn cash for your school with products you already buy. Box Tops helps schools get everything they need and teachers like my husband, sister, and parents, to get the supplies they need for their classrooms.
As a kid, I remember clipping Box Tops and having contests at school to see which classroom could collect the most. Now Box Tops for Education makes it easy with the Box Tops mobile app.
After I picked up our groceries, I used the app to scan my receipt from Hy-Vee. It was so quick and easy! The app did all the work to find the Box Top products that I purchased and instantly added cash to my daughter’s school’s earnings online. All in less than a minute.
And in case you need to hear it again…there is no more need to clip anything out. Woohoo!

How to Style a Back to School Breakfast Bar
Menu. Done.
Box Tops earnings. Check.
Next up, it was time to add a bit of back to school style to the breakfast bar with the help of some red, black, and yellow decor.
To start, I used several different containers to display all of the food.
To organize the strawberry GoGurt and the dark chocolate peanut and almond granola bars, I used a small black bucket from the craft store.
Besides keeping the food organized, the bucket also made it easy for everyone to see all of the choices and quickly grab what they wanted.
Then I poured the Lucky Charms into a glass container and added a serving scoop. The red snack cups were a fun addition and also a hit with both of my girls.
And for the fruit and utensils, I used a tiered tray and glass jars to make everything easily accessible.
Then, to finish styling the breakfast bar, I added few simple pieces, including a DIY back to school banner and a tall red metal chalkboard sign.
And of course, you know I couldn’t resist adding some decor to the table too.
Red gingham napkins, vintage books, a cup of pencils, and a bouquet of sunflowers and hydrangeas finished the back to school breakfast bar look.

This is such a great idea Jen! I’ll have to try this as my kids are a bit older and they’re going to three different schools with different start times. They would love these foods too!
