Fall Is In The Air
Fall is in the air, and this month, my friends and I from supper club are celebrating the season by sharing inspiration for styling a cozy and rustic backyard garden tablescape.
For those of you who are visiting from Michele at Vintage Home Designs, thanks for stopping by! Michele’s table is so inviting, and perfect for a cozy dinner party.
Each month we’re also joined by a guest host, and this time around we’re thrilled to welcome Shannon from My Little White Barn.
Shannon lives in Texas and enjoys gardening, creating new recipes, and decorating. If you don’t know Shannon yet, stop by her blog and take a look around at her beautiful home. I know you’ll love her style as much as I do.
Rustic And Cozy Fall Garden Tablescape
I’m thankful that we get to experience all the seasons here in the Midwest. I love each of them for different reasons, but fall is truly my favorite!
With summer in the rearview mirror and the humidity and mosquitos a thing of the past, it’s the perfect time to style a rustic fall tablescape and enjoy a cozy dinner in the garden.
How To Set An Outdoor Table For Fall
When I think of the early fall months, I think of cool mornings, warm, rich colors, and sweet, crisp apples. And it was apples that inspired my rustic and cozy fall tablescape set in our backyard garden.
To create a causal and relaxed tablescape, I placed a rustic burlap runner in the middle of the table. Then, I added some simple brown wicker chargers to tie in with the burlap fabric of the runner.
And, because I love layers, I finished with some plaid placemats and rust-colored napkins.
I paired the fall-colored linens with some creamy white stoneware dishes. These pretty plates have made a lot of appearances here on the blog (like in my recent backyard breakfast picnic) and for good reason.
They are my favorite!
If you’re looking to invest in some versatile dishware that is ideal for both everyday use and a special meal, white is the way to go.
Another favorite of mine is this gold silverware. The warm, rich tones of the metal make this set perfect for fall and the upcoming holiday season!
Then, to finish each place setting I added some vintage-looking water goblets. I love the delicate detail of the etched glass. Aren’t they pretty?
How To Make A Fall Flower Arrangement
A bouquet of fresh flowers is one of my favorite ways to dress up a table and make the meal feel a little more special.
When you’re making a floral arrangement, keep in mind how much space you have on your table, and the height of the bouquet.
Since there’s not much space for a lot of extra decor on our metal patio table, I kept my centerpiece simple with a small and short fall arrangement.
For the vase, I used an old brass urn that I found at a thrift store a few years ago. If you love the look of brass, garage sales, auctions, barn sales, and antique stores are all great places to look for unique pieces like this.
To me, brass decor is another versatile item that can easily transition from everyday use to seasonal decor, like a fall tablescape.
For my color palette, I once again used apples as my inspiration and grabbed some fresh flowers from the grocery store including hydrangeas, alstroemeria, and a small bunch of fern leaves.
The rust-colored alstroemeria pop against the white hydrangeas and brass vase and bring a cozy feeling to this rustic fall garden tablescape.
Other Fall Tablescape Elements
I can’t forget about the food! Keeping with the theme of less is more, I opted to include a small charcuterie board for snacking.
This personalized cheese board is from Katrina at PNW Farmhouse Design Co.
The board is perfect for a small dinner party, or a fun date night-in with wine and cheese!
And no table is complete without a little ambiance. I added several vintage brass candles to my autumn tablescape to add a warm and cozy glow.
I even made a few candlestick holders with some extra apples.
