7 Simple Ways To Add Curb Appeal To Your Porch This Summer
We’ve been feeling the heat here in the Midwest lately. Hellloooo 90 degrees! It seems like we skipped over spring and went straight to summer.
But I don’t mind. I’ve taken advantage of the sunny weather and spent time working on outdoor projects every chance I get.
With the change in seasons, one of the things I look forward to the most is sprucing up our front porch. Tackling just a few projects like planting flowers or updating your lighting is an easy and cost-effective way to create an inviting and welcoming home.
So I’m sharing tips to help your home stand out from the rest. Make a great first impression with these ideas for seven simple ways to add curb appeal to your porch this summer.
Start With A Clean Slate
Start with a clean slate! Sweep up dust and debris. Rake up excess leaves. Check for litter. Unclog your gutters. Clean your windows. And use a power washer to wash off the built-up dirt and grime left over from the spring and winter months.
Here’s a small list of things you can power wash to get your porch summer ready.
- siding
- front steps, sidewalks, and walkways
- outdoor furniture
- porch floor and railings
Paint Your Front Door
Make a big impact that won’t break the bank and give your front door a fresh coat of paint.
Pick a color that will make your door pop and complement the exterior colors of your home.
You can see what a difference the power of paint makes. Just look at how sad and drab our front door was before I refreshed our porch.
The dark, dramatic color sets the tone and helps make the front door the focal point of our home.
Update Your Hardware
It’s quick and easy to give the front of your home a new look with the help of some updated hardware.
Switch out your dated or worn door handle for something new and modern. And coordinate with a new light fixture, house numbers, and metal wall planters.
TIP: On a tight budget? Give your old hardware a brand new look with spray paint! It can be done in only a few hours, and your hardware will look brand new (for little to no money at all).
Install A Rain Barrel
Install a DIY rain barrel to conserve water, help prevent soil erosion, and save money!
You can find rain barrel kits at most hardware stores and your barrel can be made of wood (like ours), or plastic.
A few years in, and this is still one of my top five favorite projects! And it’s been a hit with our neighbors too.
Plant Some Porch Pots
Add instant curb appeal to your outdoor living space with some new flower planters.
And it’s easy to create beautiful planters like the pros when you follow this simple 4-step planting method.
To care for your planters, water, deadhead, and fertilize as needed, and you’ll have gorgeous blooms on your porch that last all season long.
Dress Up Your Front Door
Dress up your front door for the summer and add a pop of color with a new wreath.
You can make your own, like this DIY fern wreath. Or, for a different spin on a wreath, try a flowering door basket.
Let Your Personality Shine
Show your personality and add decorative touches to make your front porch cozy and inviting.
Layer rugs like this seagrass area rug with a printed doormat to add color and create visual interest.
Finish by adding decor like an accent table, furniture, pillows, and decor pieces like some lanterns.

Thank, you. That’s one of my favorite features as well. The new door color really made a big difference. I love how dramatic it is now. It really sets the tone for the whole porch.
