How To Make Hot Cocoa Bombs 6 Different Ways
In our house, it doesn’t feel like the holidays until there’s hot cocoa. So today, I’m excited to team up with Land O Lakes® Cocoa Classics® Cocoa Mix to share with you how to make six different kinds of hot cocoa bombs.
Featuring dry milk, Land O Lakes® Cocoa Classics® Cocoa Mix is a premium gluten-free cocoa. There are over 18 flavors to choose from, including the newest one, Birthday Cake, which comes complete with sprinkles in the mix!
What You Need To Make Hot Cocoa Bombs
- Silicone molds. To make the chocolate shell of the cocoa bombs, you’ll need a silicone mold. I purchased mine online, or you can find them at craft stores, too.
- Chocolate. I used candy melts, but you can also use chocolate chips or almond bark in a pinch.
- Hot cocoa mix. Grab your favorite flavors of Land O Lakes® Cocoa Classics® Cocoa Mix to fill the cocoa bombs. You’ll only need about 2 tablespoons from each packet. Use a clip to fold over the cocoa packet and save the rest for later.
- Cocoa bomb fillings. This is the fun part! Get creative with fillings like mini marshmallows, chocolate chips, or crushed peppermint candies.
Step By Step Instructions For How To Make Hot Cocoa Bombs
1. Melt The Chocolate
First, start by melting your chocolate in the microwave in a microwave-safe container. Melt the chocolate in 15-30 second increments and stir frequently to avoid scorching it. You can also melt it on the stove over medium-low heat with a double boiler if you prefer.
2. Make The Cocoa Bomb Shells
Once the chocolate is melted, use the back of a spoon to pour the chocolate into each mold and coat the entire circle. Work as quickly as possible to fill all of the shells before the chocolate begins to set. You may still see some of the mold through the chocolate, but don’t worry! This is just the first layer.
Put the mold in the freezer for 5 minutes until the chocolate hardens. Next, add a second layer of chocolate, making sure that the mold is completely covered and the shell is thick. Return the mold to the freezer for an additional 5 minutes. Then it’s time to fill your cocoa bombs.
3. Fill The Cocoa Bombs
Gently pop each of the chocolate shells out of the mold.
Then, in one half of each shell, add 2 tablespoons of Land O Lakes® Cocoa Classics® Cocoa Mix.
I used some of my favorite flavors paired with some fun fillings to make 6 different types of cocoa bombs (more on that in just a bit).
4. Seal The Cocoa Bombs
To seal the cocoa bombs, heat a microwave-safe plate in the microwave for 60-90 seconds. Once warm, use a hot pad to remove the plate.
Then press one of the empty chocolate shells on the plate to slightly melt the edges. Quickly place it on top of the filled half of your chocolate shell and tada! Your cocoa bomb is complete.
When you’re ready to sip on a warm cup of holiday cheer, add one cocoa bomb to a mug. Pour 6 ounces of hot water over the bomb, stir and enjoy!
Hot Cocoa Bomb Flavors
I used chocolate supreme, s’mores, mint, salted caramel, birthday cake, and arctic white chocolate Land O Lakes® Cocoa Classics® Cocoa Mix to make 6 different hot cocoa bomb flavors.
Traditional Hot Cocoa. You can’t go wrong with a classic. To make a traditional hot cocoa bomb, fill a milk chocolate shell with some Chocolate Supreme Land O Lakes® Cocoa Classics® Cocoa Mix. Add in some mini chocolate chips and drizzle with white chocolate on the top.
S’mores. This cocoa bomb has all the flavor of a s’more without the ooey-gooey mess. Fill a milk chocolate shell with some S’mores and Chocolate Land O Lakes® Cocoa Classics® Cocoa Mix. Add in some mini chocolate chips, marshmallows, and top it off with more mini marshmallows to finish.
Merry Chris-Mint. If you love the flavor of mint, then this cocoa bomb is right up your alley. Fill a milk chocolate shell with some Mint and Chocolate Land O Lakes® Cocoa Classics® Cocoa Mix. Sprinkle in a few creme de menthe baking chips, add more mint chips on the top, and, voila.
More Hot Cocoa Bomb Flavors
Salted Caramel. Salty and sweet, the salted caramel cocoa bomb is the best of both worlds. Fill a milk chocolate shell with some Salted Caramel and Chocolate Land O Lakes® Cocoa Classics® Cocoa Mix. Drizzle caramel on the top and add just a pinch of sea salt to finish.
Birthday Cake Pop. My girls both have winter birthdays, so of course, we had to try the newest Land O Lakes® Cocoa Classics® Cocoa Mix, Birthday Cake White Chocolate cocoa. It even has sprinkles right in the mix! To make this cocoa bomb fill a white chocolate shell with some birthday cake cocoa mix. Add in a few more sprinkles, then drizzle with white chocolate and, you guessed it…more sprinkles!
White Chocolate Peppermint Mocha. I love peppermint mocha, and this cocoa bomb is a great kid-friendly version. Fill a white chocolate shell with some Arctic White Chocolate Land O Lakes® Cocoa Classics® Cocoa Mix. Sprinkle in some crushed peppermint candies and top with more candy to finish.
