Thanksgiving Dinner Party
Supper club is back once again. This month I’m excited to team up with my friends Stacy, Rachel, Anne, AnnMarie, and Michele, to bring you more table styling and recipe inspiration.
So far this fall we’ve shared ideas for how to host a tailgate at home and tips to style a harvest picnic. This month, we’re celebrating the season by sharing ideas for setting an elegant and inviting Thanksgiving table.
We are thrilled to welcome Danielle from Faith and Farmhouse as our guest host this month. I hope you’ll take some time to stop by her blog, say hi, and take a look at her beautiful tablescape.
If you are joining me today from Michele over at Vintage Home Designs, thank you for stopping by!
I’m Jen. A wife, mom of two, and lifelong Nebraskan. I have a slight obsession with Diet Dr. Pepper and love to bake, blog, and share my passions for all the things that make a house a home.
Here at MWLS, my goal is to inspire you and show you that you don’t need to spend a lot of money to create a beautiful and inviting home.
Setting An Elegant And Inviting Thanksgiving Table
Once I find something that I love, I tend to stick with it. A cozy old sweatshirt that I wear on repeat. That go-to comfort food meal that I love to cook on cold and rainy days. You get the picture.
The “if it’s not broke, don’t fix it” mantra rings true for me with most things in life. And I’ve found that it’s especially true when it comes to how I style tablescapes.
I don’t own very many fall or Thanksgiving-specific items. Instead, I love to use staples like brass candlestick holders and neutral chargers, linens, and dishes. These items help to bring in texture and earth tones that are not only great for the fall but can be used all year long.
So when I began to make plans to style this year’s Thanksgiving tablescape, I did so with a few goals in mind. I wanted to create a tablescape that was simple, elegant, and styled using decor that I already own.
And I’m happy to report that I did it! Well…mostly did it. Below are all of the details for how I styled an elegant and inviting Thanksgiving table.
How To Set The Table
To create an inviting and elegant Thanksgiving table setting I used many of the staple items I mentioned above.
To start, I added some plaid placemats. They’re one of the two new things I purchased for the table. I really did intend to only use things I already had to style my table, but when I saw them in the store, I couldn’t pass them up. I adore all things plaid, and I knew the colors would coordinate perfectly with some of the other pieces I planned to use.
Next, I added some rattan chargers and my favorite stoneware dishes. The dishes are great for everyday use and can also be used for more formal settings like a holiday meal.
Then I added a few different colored napkins to coordinate with the placemats. And, because you know how much I like to mix old decor with new, I included a few vintage dishes, too.
I found these teacups and saucers a few weeks ago at Goodwill and instantly fell in love with the pretty rust-colored fall pattern.
After some quick research, I found out that the pattern is called quail and was made in England from 1921-1968.
It’s highly collectible (and hard to find), but now I’m on the hunt to add other pieces to my new collection!
To finish the place settings I used some gold flatware and long-stemmed wine glasses.
Now all that’s missing is the turkey and with all of the fixings! Yum!
Ideas To Create An Elegant Centerpiece
A few weeks ago, I shared how to make this DIY artichoke and magnolia centerpiece.
As simple as it is beautiful, all you need is a dough bowl, magnolia leaves, some artichokes, and a few minutes to put it all together.
I love the mix of the green and copper colors of the magnolia leaves. And the centerpiece ties in nicely with my overall fall home decor this year.
After I placed the dough bowl on the table, I added a few finishing touches to complete the centerpiece. I always love to use candles, so I added a few vintage brass candlesticks.
They’re one of my favorite staple pieces to decorate with, and I’ve used them in many of my tablescapes lately. I love how classic they feel, and you can usually find them for cheap at garage sales or thrift stores.
If you can’t find any second-hand brass candlesticks, you can also get reproduction ones like [THESE].
They instantly add warmth and ambiance to any table and are the perfect addition to help create a cozy and elegant Thanksgiving meal.
To finish the centerpiece, I added a few amber-colored votives. They look so pretty lit up.
And do you see the white stone turkey peeking out from behind the table? I love to decorate our buffet, so it got a little Thanksgiving makeover too.
