It’s Reveal Week!
Can you believe it? Six weeks have flown! We ran into a few hurdles down the stretch, and I wasn’t sure we’d get our reno done in time. But we did it! We crossed the finish line for the Jeffrey Court Renovation Challenge, and today we get to reveal our affordable modern cottage kitchen makeover.
Affordable Modern Cottage Kitchen Makeover Reveal
Before I share the final reveal, let’s take a peek at what the kitchen looked like before we started.
Follow Our Challenge Progress: Week 1 / Week 2 / Week 3 / Week 4 / Week 5
Do you remember this room? This was our boring, builders-grade kitchen. With its mismatched appliances and off-white laminate counters, it was far from the modern cottage kitchen we dreamed of.
But look at it now!
To say this challenge was a huge test of my tendency to procrastinate would be an understatement.
Anyone who knows me knows that I’m the queen of half-done projects. I start with great intentions but always lose steam halfway through.
But we pushed through, and I’m truly amazed at how much we were able to accomplish in just six short weeks.
The Makeover
We had a pretty big to-do list for our modern cottage kitchen makeover. Here’s a recap of all of the things we completed throughout the challenge.
- Added a fresh coat of paint on the walls and painted the window trim white
- Installed a new cordless blind
- Replaced the light fixture above the sink with a new pendant
- Refreshed the old chandelier with the help of some spray paint
- Purchased and installed a new stainless steel microwave
- Painted our kitchen table using our new Wagner Spray Tech paint sprayer.
- Updated our old barstools and kitchen table chairs with some new cottage-style stools and matching bistro chairs
- Refreshed the laminate countertops with paint to replicate the look of white quartz
- Ripped out the old sink and installed a new sink and new faucet
- Installed a new tile backsplash
The reno was not without its challenges, but we made it through. I’m so dang proud of us that we did it all on a budget and (mostly) by ourselves.
While there are still a few projects we’d like to tackle in our kitchen later down the line, this first phase of the makeover has already made such an impact.
There are so many things I love about the transformation, but my favorite has to be the gorgeous tile backsplash.
I love the neutral color and the classic herringbone design.
It’s the perfect blend of vintage meets modern, and helps to give our kitchen a cozy cottage vibe.
Jeffrey Court Renovation Challenge Project Recap
This modern cottage kitchen makeover was our biggest DIY to date. It was a scary project, but we learned so much throughout this challenge, and I’m glad we did it!
I want to say a huge thank you to Jeffrey Court, Frog Tape, and Wagner Spray Tech for inviting me to participate. It was such an honor to be chosen as a finalist and included amongst so many wonderful and talented DIYers and designers.
Even now, at the end of the challenge, I’m still in awe of it all. I can’t believe I was able to cross this challenge off of my blogging bucket list.
Affordable Modern Cottage Kitchen Makeover Reveal
I hope you enjoyed following along with us each week. And, of course, I would be remiss if I didn’t say a HUGE thanks to each of you for your encouragement and support throughout the project. The votes, comments, and virtual hugs mean so much. I’m blessed to have some of the best family, friends, and readers that a girl could ask for.
Voting is still open for a few more days, so don’t forget to head on over to the Jeffrey Court webpage and get in those final submissions. Then stay tuned to see who is announced as the winner of the dream vacation!
After this project, I think Kirk I would welcome the idea of fruity drinks on a beach somewhere. Fingers crossed!

Wowza! I can’t believe you got that much done in such a short time and how wonderful it looks! I think the sink is my fave. No the backsplash. No the painted kitchen table. It’s too hard to decide! I know you’ll have a great holiday season spending time in there. Congrats and I hope you win!
