Simple One Pan Skillet Lasagna
I love a good lasagna. But the classic recipe can be a bit time-consuming to make. I discovered this simple skillet lasagna a few years ago, and it has become one of our family’s favorite Italian dishes. Especially on busy weeknights!
Just a few basic staples are all you need to make this lightened-up version of the traditional dish.
And because this lasagna is made in one pan, it means fewer dishes and less mess for you to clean up after. Hallelujah.
Ingredients For One Pan Skillet Lasagna
- 1 pound lean ground beef or ground mild Italian sausage
- 1 green bell pepper, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced (equivalent to about 1 and 1/2 teaspoons)
- 1 jar spaghetti sauce (23.5 ounces)
- 1 and 1/2 cups water
- 8 oven-ready lasagna noodles, broken into pieces
- 1 cup shredded Mozzarella cheese
- fresh parsley to garnish
How To Make One Pan Skillet Lasagna
In a deep skillet, cook one pound of lean ground beef over medium heat until done and no longer pink. Drain off any excess grease as needed.
Next, stir in the diced green pepper, three cloves of minced garlic, one jar of spaghetti sauce, and the water. For the sauce, I prefer to use Prego, but any brand sauce will work.
Bring the mixture to a boil. Then, break up eight oven-ready lasagna noodles and add them into the skillet. Cook the lasagna over medium-low heat for 20-25 minutes or until the noodles are tender.
*NOTE: As the mixture cooks down, I find that I usually need to add a bit more water to keep the noodles covered until they are done. And don’t forget to stir once in a while to prevent the lasagna from sticking to the bottom of the pan.
When the noodles are done, remove the skillet from the heat. Sprinkle with one cup of shredded Mozzarella cheese and place a lid on the pan.
Let the lasagna sit for five minutes, or until the cheese is melted.
Garnish with fresh chopped parsley and serve immediately.

Jen,
To have the taste of lasagna, you forgot the ricotta cheese. How would I add this?
midwestlifeandstyle says
Hi Steve,
This specific recipe is a bit different than traditional lasagna and doesn’t call for ricotta (or cottage cheese as I use in my layered dish) You could certainly experiment and add some. If you try it, let me know!
Saralou A Durham says
What size tomato sauce did you use? It isn’t listed in the ingredients..
midwestlifeandstyle says
Oops! Thanks for catching that. I’ve fixed it now. I just used one regular-sized jar (23.5 ozs.) of spaghetti sauce.
Anne from Simply2Moms says
