How to Make Old Fashioned Strawberry Peach Crisp
Step 1: Blanch and Peel the Peaches
First, preheat your oven to 375℉ and grease an 8 x 11-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.
Then set it aside while you prep the peaches.
Blanching and peeling peaches might sound intimidating, but I promise it’s easy.
First, fill a large stockpot or Dutch oven with water and bring it to a boil.
While the water comes to a boil, use a paring knife to carefully cut an “x” in the bottom of each peach without slicing too deep and damaging the flesh.
Use a slotted spoon to place the peaches in the boiling water for 30 seconds to one minute.
Do not boil the peaches for too long, or they will start to cook.
When done, immediately place the peaches in an ice water bath to shock them and stop the cooking process.
Once the peaches are nice and cool, grab a paring knife and find the “x” you scored at the bottom
Then peel upwards towards the stem and the peach skin should easily slide off.
Step 2: Mix the Strawberry and Peach Crisp Filling
To make the fruit filling for old-fashioned strawberry peach crisp, use a paring knife to cut along the crease of the peach.
Then twist to separate, remove the pit, and slice.
Next, give your strawberries a quick rinse and remove the green tops using a knife or strawberry huller.
I also used my egg slicer to make quick work of slicing them!
Then, combine the peaches, strawberries, lemon juice, and granulated sugar in a large bowl, pour the fruit filling into your prepared baking dish, and set it aside.
Step 3: Mix the Crisp Topping
Alright, here’s my shortcut for the crumb topping – a food processor!
It makes everything super easy!
Just toss the brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, and butter into the food processor.
Then, hit the pulse button a few times until the mixture looks like coarse crumbs, about the size of peas.
Once the crisp topping is done, carefully transfer the mixture to a separate mixing bowl. Stir in the oats until combined and crumbly, and sprinkle the crisp topping over the strawberry peach filling.
Tip from Jen’s Kitchen: If you do not have a food processor (or you’re looking for a good forearm workout), you can also use a pastry blender to cut the butter into the dry ingredients.
Step 4: Bake the Strawberry Peach Crisp
Place your baking dish in the oven and bake for 30 minutes or until the strawberry peach crisp is bubbly and the topping is golden brown.
Once it’s finished, remove from the oven, place on a wire rack, and allow your crisp to cool slightly.
How to Serve Strawberry Peach Crisp
You can serve your strawberry peach crisp warm, at room temperature, or even chilled.
I prefer my crisp served warm topped with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream or whipped cream.
The yum factor of the crisp is off the charts!
This old-fashioned strawberry peach crisp is a summertime staple.
Even my husband, who isn’t the biggest sweets fan, can’t resist it.
I think it’s safe to say you’ll be making this crisp recipe again and again all season long.
Can I use Frozen Fruit to Make Crisp?
Fresh fruit is best for this recipe, but you can use unsweetened frozen fruit to make strawberry peach crisp.
Just remember, if you choose frozen fruit, thaw it completely first.
Drain the excess juice and pat the fruit dry with paper towels to remove extra moisture and prevent your crisp from becoming soggy.
What are the Best Peaches for Baking Crisp?
Freestone peaches, also known as cling-free peaches, are the best for this crisp recipe.
Their flesh separates easily from the pit, making them a breeze to prep for baking.
You can use any variety of freestone yellow or white peaches, just choose ones that are slightly firm (not hard) and free of bruises or soft spots.
Many places offer fresh options – pick your own at local farms or visit farmers’ markets for seasonal fruit.
Of course, peaches from your grocery store work just fine too!
When to Serve Strawberry Peach Crisp
Of course, anytime is a good time to make some old fashioned strawberry peach crisp, but if you’re hosting any summertime get-togethers here are some additional ideas for serving it up:
Backyard Summer Picnic: This crisp recipe is a summer picnic winner! It’s light and refreshing, making the perfect sweet ending to a laid-back backyard spread.
Casual Summer Celebrations: This strawberry peach crisp dessert is an easy choice for a relaxed summer gathering, like a neighborhood potluck party or a low country boil.

I think the combination of fruit makes it just perfect. Not too tart and not too sweet. I hope you enjoy!

I just made this and it is absolutely perfect!! I added a pinch of salt to the crisp mix, swapped out the sugar for coconut sugar and opted not to blanch the peaches and even with these changes it is absolutely delish!
Thank you for the fab recipe!!!
