Cozy and Colorful Fall Home
Welcome to our cozy and colorful fall home! If you are new here, I’m Jen. A wife, mom of two, and lifelong Nebraskan. Here at Midwest Life and Style, you’ll find a little bit of everything, including recipes, home decor, and inspiration for everyday living. From simple DIY projects to holiday celebrations, home styling tips, and more, my goal is to prove that you don’t need a big budget to create a beautiful and inviting home.
Welcome To Our Porch
If you know me, you know that I love to style our front porch with the change of the seasons. I had so much fun giving our porch a simple refresh earlier this summer that I couldn’t wait to dress it up again for the fall!
One of my favorite things on our fall porch is this new DIY corn husk wreath. Last year I purchased a similar wreath from a big-box store. Sadly, it didn’t last long. So, instead of spending a lot of money on a new one, I made one myself. I love how it turned out. And the best part? It cost less than $30 to make! You can see how I made the wreath [HERE]
When styling my porch, I always like to layer a few rugs to help add some texture to the space. (And as a bonus, it helps to hide more of the ugly cement. Win! Win!)
[THIS] rug is great for indoors or out. Even though our front porch is unprotected from the elements, this rug handles our Midwest weather like a champ! I bought the cute pumpkin rug last year. This one is currently out of stock, but I did find a similar one [HERE].
If you’ve visited me on the blog or Instagram before, you might recognize [THESE] crocks. They are a staple on my front porch each season. They look like vintage pieces but don’t have the vintage price tag. (Whoop, whoop!)
We have worked hard to spruce up our little porch over the last few months, and I’m happy with how it has come along. We added landscape lights, new shrubs, and made this DIY rain barrel too.
I still want to add a few more fall touches, but for now, I love the clean and simple look. How about you?
Festive Fall Dining Room
Off of the porch and through the front door is the dining room. I love how open and airy it feels with the large windows and vaulted ceilings. It is one of my favorite rooms in our home to decorate.
As you can tell, our home is a blend of decor styles, including both traditional and cottage farmhouse styles. I truly enjoy mixing and matching new pieces with old, vintage finds like these amber bottles and my antique dresser (seen at the left of the photo).
The dresser was a $60 Goodwill find, and you won’t believe what she looked like before. To see how I turned this piece from trash into treasure, click [HERE].
One of my favorite elements of our cozy and colorful fall home is the tablescape. I created this simple seasonal look using a dough bowl filled with a mix of white, faux pumpkins, and aspen stems from Joanne Fabric.
To finish the tablescape, I added more layers and texture with my favorite chargers, dishes, and these mini wreaths that I snagged at the Target dollar spot!
The tour of our dining room wouldn’t be complete without sharing some of my most loved vintage finds with you. Each piece has a special story. My most-treasured is this pair of corbels, which were once part of an old wrap-around porch from my grandparents’ 1800’s farmhouse.
And, I couldn’t help but share a closer view of this sign from one of my favorite small shops, Currently Chic Boutique. Isn’t it beautiful? And of course, perfect for the fall season.
A Cozy Autumn Bedroom
My cozy and colorful fall home tour continues in the bedroom. Besides the living room and kitchen, our bedroom is one of the rooms in our home where I spend the most time. You’ll often find me here cozied up working on the blog or binging my latest obsession, When Calls the Heart.
So, of course, it was important to me to add some cozy fall touches to this room as well. I kept our bedding neutral and added some pops of color with [THESE] rust-orange pillow covers. I also fell in love with this fun tassel pillow from the fall Hearth and Hand collection. (You can see more of my favorite Hearth and Hand picks HERE.)
To bring in some more warm tones, I added a few simple fall stems inside of this vintage jug on my nightstand and then carried the colors over to the wall planters above our bed.
Our sweet pup, Sadie, is a total mama’s girl and my little snuggle buddy. She approves of the cozy fall bedroom vibes too!

Love how you styled all these spaces, Jen! The crocks look so pretty with the mums and the vines. What kind of vines did you plant? Love the color that they add! Those little wreaths on your place settings are the perfect accent. Everything is just beautiful!

Thank you so much, Anne. The vines are sweet potatoes vines. I transplanted them from my summer pots and I really like the added texture and color they add to our fall porch.

Love everything !! Don’t we love our Fall in the Midwest !!!! Oh, quick question, if don’t mind, where did you purchase the shoes you have on, in the porch rug photo ?
midwestlifeandstyle says
Thank you, Wanda. I am so happy to live in a place where we get to experience the beauty of every season. We have a big maple tree in our front yard that turns a brilliant red every fall and it is so beautiful! I got the shoes a year or two ago at Target, but it looks like they still carry them in limited stock. They are the Wenda Cut Out Bootie.
