How To Make a Simple Pumpkin Floral Arrangement For Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving is a time for family, friends, and food. And what better way to celebrate than with a beautiful Thanksgiving centerpiece?
This pumpkin floral arrangement is easy to make and will add a touch of elegance to your table.
Tools And Supplies Needed For A Thanksgiving Pumpkin Floral Arrangement
Here is a list of everything you’ll need to make your own DIY Thanksgiving centerpiece
- Fresh pumpkin
- Bowl or vase (the same size as the top of the pumpkin)
- Serrated knife
- Pumpkin scoop
- Petroleum jelly
- Floral foam
- Fresh flowers and greenery of your choice
- Water
Getting Started on Your Pumpkin Floral Centerpiece
To get started on your Thanksgiving pumpkin floral arrangement gather your supplies. For my DIY fall centerpiece, I used a real pumpkin and fresh flowers from the grocery store.
But, if you want to re-use your pumpkin centerpiece each fall, you can switch and use a faux pumpkin and faux fall flowers instead.
Tips For Choosing Your Pumpkin And Fall Flowers:
Here are a few tips to keep in mind when picking out a pumpkin and flowers to create your Thanksgiving centerpiece :
- Choose a pumpkin that is the right size for your table. You want it to be large enough to make a statement, but not so large that it takes up too much space.
- If you are using real flowers, be sure to choose flowers that are in season and that will complement your Thanksgiving table decor.
- If you are using faux flowers, be sure to choose flowers that are high quality and that look realistic.
Directions To Make A Thanksgiving Pumpkin Floral Arrangement
Step 1: Cut And Scoop Out Your Pumpkin
First, you’ll want to find a bowl or a vase that is slightly smaller than the top of your pumpkin.
Then flip the bowl upside down and use a pencil to trace a circle on top of the pumpkin.
Use a sharp serrated knife to cut along the traced circle. Remove the top part of the pumpkin and then scoop out all the seeds and pulp.
Step 2: Place Your Bowl Or Vase In The Pumpkin
After your pumpkin is cleaned, nestle a bowl or vase in the empty space inside the pumpkin. This will help to support the floral foam and flowers.
Note: The bowl should fit snugly so it doesn’t move or slip.
Cut a piece of floral foam to fit inside the bowl. Then, soak the foam in water until it is saturated.
Step 3: Fill Your Pumpkin Centerpiece With Fall Flowers
Trim the stems of your flowers as needed. Then start by adding some greenery near the outer edge of your arrangement. Press the stems into the floral foam, and turn the pumpkin as you go.
To give your pumpkin Thanksgiving floral arrangement an extra touch of fall, you can also try adding some dried leaves to the mix.
My favorite filler to use in floral arrangements is seeded eucalyptus. And I couldn’t resist grabbing a few branches of beautiful brown oak leaves for some added cozy autumn color.
Next, add the largest flowers to your Thanksgiving pumpkin centerpiece. I love the classic look of hydrangeas, but roses and dahlias are also beautiful options.
Keep adding flowers until you’re happy with the arrangement, filling in any gaps with greenery and smaller filler flowers.
The Secret To Making Your Pumpkin Last Longer
What’s the secret to making your pumpkin last longer? It’s petroleum jelly! Before creating your Thanksgiving floral arrangement, try coating the inside of your pumpkin with Vaseline.
A thin coat of petroleum jelly on the inside of your pumpkin will help keep it from drying out and extend its lifespan.
How To Display Your Thanksgiving Pumpkin Floral Arrangement
Once you’re done making your Thanksgiving floral arrangement, place it in the center of your dining room table to add some festive elegance to your holiday celebration.
If you need more space on your table on Thanksgiving Day, you can also put your pumpkin centerpiece on the kitchen counter, coffee table, or entryway table to add a touch of fall to your home.
And that’s it! I paired my pumpkin floral arrangement with some small white pumpkins and vintage brass candle sticks to add the perfect finishing touch to my Thanksgiving pie party table.
