Week In Rewind With Midwest Life And Style
Happy weekend, friends!
The weather here in Nebraska was glorious this week. With lots of sunny skies and temps in the 40s and 50s, it was a very welcome change from our gray and gloomy January.
I had planned to leave my winter decor out until March. Because here in the Midwest, Mother Nature can be pretty temperamental.
It’s not unheard of for us to get snow into late April or early May!
But our spring-like weather has me itching to drag out my bins from the basement and bust out the bunnies and pretty blooms.
If I have time, maybe I will share a sneak peek with you on Instagram later next week. Until then, here are a few of my favorite photos from last year’s spring home tour.
Now for this week’s recap. On Tuesday, I got a jump start on planning for spring with a round-up of seasonal DIY projects. If you missed it, the original post is linked below.
And, as always, I have found inspiration to share with you from a few of my favorite friends.
So pour yourself something to drink, and catch up with the latest week in rewind!
Tidbits From Home
Last Saturday Peyton turned 15. Since she spent her birthday on the basketball court, we celebrated on Sunday with a belated brunch at one of our favorite local restaurants.
If you ever find yourself traveling through Lincoln, a stop at Cook’s Cafe for breakfast or lunch is a must!
In other news, it’s back to work for me on Monday. It feels like these last five weeks of recovery flew by!
While I am feeling much better physically most days, I am still struggling with exhaustion and periods of brain fog.
I know it will be a big adjustment, so I am preparing to give myself a lot of grace. And with no more afternoon naps, I am planning on a lot of early bedtimes during my first few weeks back in the office!
Although I will miss wearing sweats and p.j. pants daily, I am looking forward to seeing my coworkers and getting back into a regular routine.
My Favorite Finds
These pretty spring blooms were a big hit with you all last week, so I thought they deserved another share!
With three pets in the house, this is on my wishlist.
This is perfect for storing blankets or corraling extra clutter and toys.
This bag is the perfect size for traveling.
I have and love to use this in my home decor.
More Favorites From Amazon
I am always adding new finds to my Amazon storefront, so be sure to stop by and check out my latest curated collections.
P.s. Did you know that I earn a small commission each time you click on a shoppable link in one of my posts and buy something? (Even if what you purchase is not the item I have linked.)
I am so thankful when you shop using my links. It helps keep my blogging dream alive and my little corner of the web up and going.
This Week On The Blog
I mentioned that our recent stretch of warm and sunny weather has me in the mood for spring!
On Tuesday this week, I joined a few friends to share a new post full of spring craft and DIY decor ideas.
The post has ideas for 10 different easy and affordable projects to help you get ready for spring, including my favorite DIY from last season, these adorable faux stone bunnies.
This week I also spent time making a few behind-the-scenes updates to the blog. First, I added a new entertaining and parties section.
It is underneath the home and garden tab on the main menu bar. There you will find all my holiday and entertaining ideas, along with tablescapes and inspiration for every season.
And I finally finished a project that I started waaaaay back last summer. All my recipes are now indexed by category, so you can more easily find your favorites.
You can find the new categories by clicking on the recipe box tab (housed underneath the recipes section on the main menu).
And, as always, you can also find a recipe or any post by entering your keyword (example: Easter) into the search box on the left side of the page.
On The Menu The Week of February 13-17
We have another busy sports week! That means we will have a few more dine-out nights than usual, with a lot of eating on the run. (And I do mean run!)
If your schedule is hectic too, here are some quick and easy dinnertime ideas you can make at home.
- February 13 (Monday) – Chicken Ceasar Wraps
- February 14 (Tuesday) – Chinese Take Out (Our Valentine’s Day Tradition)
- February 15 (Wednesday) – Cheesy Hamburger Rice Casserole with Fresh Green Beans
- February 16 (Thursday) – Dine Out (Basketball Game)
- February 17 (Friday) – Baked French Dip Sandwiches with Side Salad
Coming Next Week To MWLS
Next week I will be sharing two new recipes! First up, be on the lookout for a sweet treat that’s perfect to share with your Valentine.
And, if you love cozy comfort food, you won’t want to miss out on recipe number two. (Hint it might have something to do with this month’s supper club theme!)
I look forward to seeing you back here next week for all the yumminess!
More Tips, Ideas, And Inspiration From Around The Web
Laundry Room Inspiration
My first feature this week is a two-for-one from my good friends Anne and AnnMarie at Simply 2 Moms.
If you are looking to refresh your laundry room in the new year and love the classic look of the French country style, then you will love Anne’s gorgeous makeover.
I mean, can we talk about that floor? It is stunning!
And, not to be outdone, Anne’s neighbor and blogging buddy, AnnMarie, completed a beautiful renovation too. Just look at this farmhouse-style laundry room makeover.
The locker storage is so clever, but my favorite part of the makeover has to be the show-stopping custom wood door that AnnMarie installed!
Vegetable Soup
I love cozy, comfort food this time of year, and soup is always at the top of my list.
This classic vegetable soup recipe is from my friend Missy at Sonata Home Design. Doesn’t it look delish?
Be sure to swing by Missy’s blog to get her recipe.
Spring Kitchen Refresh
My last feature this week goes to my friend, Pasha from Pasha is Home.
If you are starting to think about spring too, then stop by Pasha’s blog to read her post with tips to refresh your kitchen for the season.
Pasha’s kitchen is one of my favorites in all of blog land. I promise you will not be sorry for stopping by her beautiful home to see more.

Thank you, Missy. It sounds like we’ll get one more day of spring and then winter returns…sigh. But hopefully, spring will be here to stay, soon! Your soup recipe looks delicious. Happy to share and can’t wait to try it!

So many fabulous links and inspirational ideas in this post, Jen! I love that you guys celebrated Peyton’s birthday at your favorite place and that your coworkers sent you a beautiful bouquet too. I would have never thought to put those colors together and I love it. It sounds like you have a great plan for your back-to-work return. I can hardly believe it’s been almost 6 weeks either. I’ll definitely be keeping you in my prayers as you transition back. In the meantime, thank you for all the spring inspiration. Off to check out your favorite things. Hugs, CoCo
