Week In Rewind With Midwest Life And Style
Happy weekend, friends!
I am slowly getting back on the blogging train, and I finally finished two posts that I started before surgery. I am still a bit behind where I had hoped to be, but it felt good to get some new content out.
In today’s recap, I have also gathered up some of the best posts from a few of my friends, including a delicious chowder recipe, closet makeover, winter decorating ideas, and more.
So pour yourself a cup of coffee, and catch up with the latest week in rewind.
Tidbits From Home
We started off the week with a birthday celebration. On Monday Harper turned nine!
Kirk and the girls were off from school for the MLK holiday, so we spent the day lounging and watching movies. Then we celebrated with dinner at Pizza Ranch (the birthday girl’s choice) and ended the night with a slice of ice cream cake.
This week I am slowly starting to venture out of the house more. Although most of my outings are usually preceded (and sometimes followed) by a nap, it is nice to do things that feel like part of our normal routine.
On Thursday I made it to a basketball game, and I hope to sneak in some volleyball action on Sunday.
I had my two-week post-op check-up Thursday as well. My physician said she is pleased with my recovery and that the exhaustion and brain drain I am feeling is normal.
It will likely continue to be slower here for the next few weeks. Thank you for hanging around and being patient with me as I continue to work on being patient with myself.
My Favorite Finds
I have and love this purse. It’s not too big, but still has plenty of storage!
I love this for our living room.
These are one of my favorite pairs of booties ever.
I have and love these food storage containers. No stains and no more missing lids!
This cute and cozy sweater.
Latest Loves on Amazon
I added more finds to my Amazon storefront this week including cozy cottage-style decor, and kitchen faves. Stop by to see all the latest.
This Week On The Blog
My brain has been in overdrive, making lists of everything I want to clean and de-clutter once I have recovered from surgery.
Luckily, Amazon has a great selection of affordable options. I rounded up 75 of the best products to help you get organized in the new year.
I compiled a list of my favorites for each room in your home that includes items for the kitchen, laundry room, and more!
If you missed it, you can see the original post HERE. And don’t forget to pin it to save it for later!
I also shared a round-up of my favorite winter decor finds from Amazon. Which only seems appropriate given the snowy and icy weather here in Nebraska earlier this week.
Only two months until spring, sunshine, and warmer days, but who’s counting? (Hint. Me. It’s me. I’m counting.)
On The Menu This Week
Our calendar is jam-packed, so this week is all about keeping dinnertime as simple as possible. The meal plan consists of tried and true dishes that even the pickiest eater in my house loves.
As a bonus, many of the recipes can be easily doubled for those nights when you don’t have time to cook (or honestly don’t feel like it).
The Week of January 23 – 27
- January 23 (Monday) – Crockpot Chicken and Dumplings
- January 24 (Tuesday) – Cheese Manicotti with Side Salad (Meal Train)
- January 25 (Wednesday) – Leftover Night or Grab ‘n Go
- January 26 (Thursday) – Parmesan Ranch Chicken with Baked Potatoes and Corn
- January 27 (Friday) – Spaghetti with Meat Sauce, Garlic Rolls, and Steamed Peas
Coming Next Week To MWLS
The end of the month is creeping up quickly, and that means that it’s time for a new round of supper club!
Join me and my friends on Tuesday to see our latest tablescape creations. Then be sure to visit again on Saturday for our brunch menu. Filled with a mix of delicious sweet and savory recipes, there is something for everyone.

DIY Closet Makeover
A much-needed refresh for Peyton’s bedroom and closet is near the top of our to-do list this year, and I’m in love with this gorgeous closet makeover from Lauren at Bless’er House.
You have to see the before to appreciate what it looks like now. Wow! ! If a closet upgrade is in your future, check out Lauren’s post for all the details on this transformation.
Crockpot Corn and Shrimp Chowder
I love cozy comfort food this time of year. And this crockpot corn and shrimp chowder from Michele at Vintage Home Designs is calling my name.
I’ve been meaning to make this chowder for a while. I think it’s time to give it a try! Stop by Michele’s blog to grab the recipe and try it for yourself.
Cozy Coastal Winter Home Tour
If you love sneaking a peek into other other peoples homes each season, then you will want to stop by and visit with my friend Kim at Shiplap and Shells to see how she decorated her beautiful waterfront cottage for the cozy winter months.
The way she styled her home with coastal decor and neutral throw pillows and blankets is so pretty. The light, airy feel of Kim’s home has me dreaming of warmer and sunnier days ahead!

Jen,
I hope you are recovering from your surgery and feeling much better. I love seeing your daughters and they are so gorgeous. Thanks for sharing my bread pudding. Have a blessed weekend.
midwestlifeandstyle says
Thank you, Rachel. They keep us busy, but they are both at such a gun age. Trying to soak it in as much as possible. And I have some blueberries in my fridge. I can’t wait to try your recipe! I hope you enjoy your weekend, too!
Kim | Shiplap and Shells says
I’m so happy to hear that your post-op check-up went well and you are on the road to recovery Jen. Don’t forget to give yourself grace. I can’t thank you enough for sharing my winter home tour today in your post. I so appreciate it. Hugs and wishes for a wonderful week ahead.
midwestlifeandstyle says
Thank you, Kim. I so enjoyed your beautiful winter home tour. I hope you have a great weekend!
Jennifer says
I’m glad you are on the mend Jen!! Well, at least you have an excuse for your “brain drain”…this girl has no excuse but I’m blaming it on the winter blues!!!
midwestlifeandstyle says
Thank you! The winter blues definitely don’t help. It has been so dark and gloomy here. Even if I wanted to get photos of new content it has been next to impossible to do. This girl is ready for warmer weather and sunshine.
Nicolle says
Happy Happy Birthday to Harper! Looks like she was definitely celebrated as she should be!
Can’t wait for supper club! Have a great weekend!
midwestlifeandstyle says
Thank you, Nicolle. We’re so excited to have you. I can’t wait to see your table and recipe!
