I’ve always had a love for old stuff. As a little girl, I daydreamed about what it would be like to live in a log cabin on the prairie or to stand on the rocky shores of Prince Edward Island. So it should come as no surprise that my love for all things old has translated into a love for vintage decor.
Vintage decor can be purchased almost anywhere, including online shops like Etsy and eBay. But, my favorite place to shop for vintage decor is at flea markets. So today I am sharing a list of 15 things to buy at vintage flea markets.
There is no shortage of amazing, vintage flea markets. Some of my favorite local markets are Rural Route Rust, Vintage Market Days of Omaha, and Junkstock, just to name a few. If you’re looking for vintage flea markets in your area, be sure to check out Flea Market Zone. You can search by zip code, or state to find local markets closest to you. Facebook is also a great way to find local events.
Now that I’ve shared how to find the best vintage flea markets, I’m going to share what my top favorite things to buy are.

15 Things to Buy At Vintage Flea Markets
Numbers One – Seven
1. Architectural Salvage
Scraps of wood, doorknobs, tin tiles, corbels, and old shutters are all great examples of architectural salvage. They can be repurposed or used as-is to give your home a touch of vintage charm.
2. Vintage Books
Vintage books are always a good buy. They’re perfect for styling shelves and mantles, or they can be stacked underneath lamps or other decor to add height.
3. Crocks
Crocks are a versatile item that can be used either indoors or out. You can use them to display collections of vintage kitchen utensils or use them as flower planters on your front porch as I do.
4. Brass Decor
Brass candlesticks are another inexpensive find. I love to use them on my mantle, and on my dining room table during the holidays.
5. Seasonal Decor
Speaking of the holidays, seasonal decor is always a great thing to have on your flea market shopping list. Buying vintage seasonal decor is the perfect way to add one of a kind pieces to your home like this 13-star flag I recently purchased from a local market.
6. Glass Jars
Like crocks, glass jars are also versatile and come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and colors. How gorgeous are these vintage demijohn bottles?
7. Old Dishware
Next on my list is old dishware. They make beautiful display pieces or they can be used to serve day to day meals

Vintage flea markets are never short on one of a kind items. Collections like these globes make for a fun and unique addition to your home.

Old wood crates are both beautiful and functional. They can be used to store extra blankets, toys, or just about anything that needs to be corraled.
10. Baskets
Continuing with the storage theme, baskets come in at number 10 on my list. Wire locker baskets, picnic baskets, and large floor baskets can all be used for display or to help organize your home.
11. Kitchen Utensils
I don’t know what it is about old kitchen utensils, but I love them! Items like butter presses, scales, wooden spoons, and these rolling pins all make great collectibles.
12. Linens and Blankets
Old linens and blankets are another one of my favorite things to shop for at vintage flea markets. They can be displayed as is like these old grain sacks, or repurposed into something new.
13. Antique Furniture
If you’re looking to add cozy charm to your home, antique furniture is the way to go. These pieces can be a bit of an investment, but in my opinion, they are worth it.
14. Farm Implements
Rusty cream cans, old pails, chicken feeders, and vintage garden tools are all examples of farm implements commonly found at flea markets. Perfect for adding a touch of farmhouse style to your outdoor space.
15. Vintage Signs
Vintage signs make a great statement piece and are the perfect way to incorporate something unique in your home.
More Vintage Flea Market Shopping Tips
Ready to shop? Now that you know what to buy and where to buy it, here are a few more vintage flea market tips:
- Make a List – Before you go, make a wishlist of everything you hope to purchase and set a budget. Check items off of your list as you shop.
- Carry Cash – Some vendors use mobile credit card options such as Square, but wifi can often be sketchy at best. Cash is still king!
- Wear Comfortable Clothes – Comfy shoes are key. You’ll likely be doing a lot of walking. Now is not the time to break in those cute new sandals (or boots) you just bought. If the market is outdoors, wear layers and be sure to plan for the weather.
- Arrive Early – The best stuff is often the first stuff to sell. If you have your heart set on something, plan to arrive early to beat the crowds!
- Pack Snacks – Some markets have food vendors, but if not, be sure to pack healthy snacks and a water bottle in your bag to help keep you energized throughout the day.

You are a very good hunter. Usually, a friend and I go to a thrift store every Wednesday as they have 20% off. Great finds, but, then I have to find a place in a very fully home to honor my new special find.
I like knowing where every piece I buy came from. Sometimes, it’s a roadside find, other times it’s a great deal I just couldn’t pass up. I leave the retail stores to those who like the new mdf furniture.
I find antique sellers are usually very kind and helpful and become friends over the many years you have walked in their shops and received a big smile.
