Ahhh Summer…
This summer, we’ve been taking advantage of a slower pace by spending a lot of time outdoors.
There have been family walks, bike rides, and impromptu (socially distanced) parties in the driveway with our neighbors.
One of the things we love to do most in the summer is to play outdoor games. If you’re looking for some affordable family fun, here are my picks for the 15 best outdoor summer games.
15 Best Outdoor Summer Games
The Classics – The Best Outdoor Games
- Ladder Golf / Ladder Golf (also known as ladder toss or ladder ball) is one of our favorite outdoor games. Played in pairs or played in teams of three, the more people that join the game, the more fun it is.
- Cornhole / Cornhole is fun for all ages. The boards come in a variety of designs, or you can even make your own! The boards are also foldable, making them easy to transport and perfect for a tailgate or your next camping trip!
- Badminton / You don’t need a court to play Badminton, just a net, some racquets, and a yard. Like tennis, badminton can be played in singles or doubles. The first player or pair to 21 points wins the game.
- Croquet / When it comes to the best outdoor summer games, it doesn’t get more classic than Croquet. And the sturdy carrying case makes it easy to take your game on the go.
- Horseshoes / Horseshoes is a great summer game. Play in teams or challenge yourself and brush up on your horseshoe pitching skills.
Kid Friendly – Games For The Littlest Players
- Ring Toss / Ring toss is an ideal game for kids of all ages. And with minimal pieces, set-up is a breeze.
- Lawn Bowling / Save on lane and shoe rentals with a Lawn Bowling set! It makes a great gift and is the perfect game for birthday parties or picnics.
- Connect 4 / Like the indoor version, Outdoor Connect 4 is simple and fun for the whole family!
- Giant Jenga / Perfect for a small group or a party of ten, Giant Jenga is a fun game to test your skills.
- Washer Toss / Washer Toss is similar to ring toss. Lightweight and portable, it’s great for any outdoor event or family fun night.
Fun For All Ages – Games For The Young And The Young At Heart
- Yard Dice / Like Yahtzee for your yard, giant yard dice is great for family barbeques and all of your summer parties.
- Bocce Ball / Created in Italy, Bocce Ball is similar to bowling (without the pins!) Played between two players or played in teams, the simple rules make it ideal for players both young and old.
- Flying Disk Bottle Drop / Bottle Drop (also known as Tipsy Toss or Polish Horseshoes), can be played anywhere. Ideal for ages 10 and up, it can be played with two to four players. Just aim the disk and knock the target off of the pole.
- Bucketball / Another simple game, Bucketball can be enjoyed by players of any age. To play, just toss the ball into the other team’s bucket. If a ball lands in, the bucket is removed. The first team to eliminate all of the other team’s buckets wins!
- Molkky / Best described as a combination of bowling and Bocce ball, Molkky is easy to set up and there is no limit to the number of people who can play at a time.
